Is the basis of virginity the hymen? what ifyou broke it during masturbation r you still VIRGIN??

Really, you can break your hymen doing anything, even riding a bike or playing a sport.  If it's from masturbation it's still "there".  You will still be a virgin in the fact that a penis has never been up there.  I guess it's more of a mental thing, you could say.  I consider myself a virgin but I broke my hymen playing softball last year (spotting between periods, hurts like hell |-O), as does my boyfriend.  I chose to wait, and then I broke it, but my mom told me that exact same thing I'm telling you.  Looking at it physically, you broke it, but mentally and spiritually, you are still "pure".

Virginity is a concept. Not a physical state of being.

2917 is right - virginity is a concept.  If you haven't had sexual contact with anyone, you're still a virgin.  The physical state of your body doesn't matter.
