Pharyngitis is an inflammation of the pharynx. The most common symptom of pharyngitis is a "sore throat" but there are many other causes of a sore throat and of pharyngitis. Most of them do not include acute HIV infection.
There are really many causes of sore throat and pharyngitis and almost every man will have these many times in their life. They are usually caused by various viruses and bacteria and only rally minor part of them are caused by acute HIV infection. However, if you have high risk factors for HIV infection and you get a sore throat, it is much more likely to be acute HIV infection.
