I found something that works. It's REALLY annoying though. 1-2x a month, insert plain yogurt in before bed. 2-3 times a week douche with water + 2 tbsp of peroxide. It's worked for me. Douching with peroxide is not as horrible as people make it out to be. Don't use the scented, premixed douches. They are horrible for you.
I have been BV free (or whatever it was, i call it mirena funk) for 2 months with the treatment I posted above. I used to have horrendous problems on a daily basis.

Taking antibiotics all the time is not good for your body. When a serious illness comes along, you wont respond to treatment.

OMG I AM NOT ALONE!!! Thank you all sooo much for your help, ...

i can finally blame it on the bloody mirena. Since i have had the mirena put 2 years ago, my periods have stopped, and i get BV instead!!!! i am a very clean person, but i have been constantly been having white, yellowish fishy like disgustingly embarrsing smell and it DOES NOT GO AWAY NO MATTER HOW MUCH I WASH! it's got me so despressed! i feel uncomfortable having sex with my husband afraid that he'l pull out of me and have white smelly discharge all over his penis. The smell worsens after sex, it STINKS!....i know he can smell it but hes never mentioned anything, until i mentioned it the other day :-(

If i could smell it, im sure everybody around me can:(, doctors keep telling me to put caneston but this doesnt work for me!

Has anyone taken the MIRENA IUD out and gotton rid of the discharge and smell?????

Got the Mirena a little over a year. Since then, I have had about 5 yeast infections and a permanent discharge. It is not smelly though, just thick and white, like the yeast discharge. Disgusting all the same. I hate taking pills every day and having the IUD is so convenient, but the yeast thing, I am now having thoughts of removing it.

Wow, I am so glad I found this because I was really beginning to think something majorly wrong was going on with my body. I have had a few BV's before, but never like this, and the same with the yeast infections. They have been countless since I had Mirena put in about 3 years ago. I had always thought that the IUD was the cause of it, but now I know it is the cause. Although it is nice not to have a period every month, but I would suffer through that than itch and smell bad all the time.

Wow!!! This is crazy! I really had this theory that it was my IUD that is causing all my BV out breaks. I get them almost every time I have sex. I hate it, the smell is very embarrassing and uncomforting. I'm so glad that I looked this up and low and behold I was right. Now what kind of birth control should I use then?

Ok I got my IUD in the beginning of July a month later a yeast infection. September October November BV infection. December a UTI which is cleared by antibiotics which I got a yeast infection January and today I discover i have another Yeast Infection. >;) :evil I dont want to take it out but I have to. :'( I am sad because my period was less days and i had less pms, my skin cleared, I had lots of good things but this is waaaay too many issues and cant be healthy for our bodies. But Also I have had similar experiences, maybe not as severe, issues with Birth Control Pills, so I imagine it is the hormones. But this is horrible and I am happy to know that I am not alone. But I think the only way to solve this is by taking it out. Well I am Going to the Docs tomorrow : Good Luck Ladies!:

ok i got my iud in april 2008 and its driving me crazy. the doctors keep saying its not that its me being stressed or what ever no its not. i have been reseaching it for a while now, but im to the point of no return, i get yeast infections, bacterial infections, and bladder infections. right now i have another i may even have the other thing ur talking about bv or something i think i need a better doctor. i am taking mine out tomorrow if they wont do it then im pullin it out my self. i always discharge and have to wear a panty liner, i smell fishy smell down there its horrible. i always itch its been like this for ever since i got it. the doctor keeps saying no no its u stressed out, but theres no way im this stress. after reading all these post im for sure now i would rather have more babies then go through all this for any longer. which sucks is i cant use any other birth control im allergic to latex so theres condoms out, and all the others have side affects that effect my health this was my last hope. now its gone. grrrrrrrrrrrr!! more kids i guess. :-( :-)

I haven't had any problems with infections with Mirena, the problem I've been having is cramping. I've had the thing for a year and 2 months now and I only skip my period sometimes and I get cramps during, sometimes they're severe. I also sometimes have cramps after sex but not all the time. When I got it they said that since I'm a redhead I'm more sensitive or something. Pain killers and heat don't seem to help and I'm not worried about it being a health issue, its just annoying. Anyone having the same problem have a cramp cure? Sex is supposed to be good for cramps too, but it only works sometimes.

OMG! Are you guys kidding me?!?!! I thought I was the only one with these same issues!! I'm sorry you girls r going thru all this, but thc god that someone else out there shares the same horrific symptoms! I had a baby 8months ago and had the mirena placed 6wk postpartum... let me tell you. i thought that maybe my body was readjusting to life after a baby and just having something placed inside me so it would go away.. heck no, the smells is god awful and has progressively gotten worse as the months have gone on. My OB told me 1month after i got this placed it was B.V. prescibed me antibiotics and told me that I need to give it time because she stands by this form of B.C. and that I was nuts to think it would cause any major problems like that..
The smell is so bad anymore that if i goto the bathroom and my husband walks in there after i go pee...he can smell it.. Our sex life is completely dead, my self esteem is shot, and ive been told by dr's that im making this up.. im not. I constantly have problems urinating now bc of this, and i have an appointment in about 2 weeks. with a new GYN and I am going to demand to have this taken out asap.. I will go back on the ring..

Thank you for all the postings... I had my IUD ( mirena) put in 10 months ago and have had problems ever since. Non stop spotting, living in a pantyliner everyday, constant yeast infections, not to mention not being able to loose weight especially when I work out almost every day. When I do abdominal crunches, I can garantee some more bleeding. Im so disapointed and scared of this IUD. I suffer from endometriosis and this was my last option without surrendering to a hysterectomy/ epithelal ablation. This IUD was so painful putting it in, not to mention expensive, so Im not looking forward to having it removed but I really enjoy working out, being active and having enjoyable sex without being in pain and feeling insecure with my partner. Thanks again

I have had the mirena for about a year and a half. It started out with sharp pains in my left ovary and sometimes in my back. I'm constantly itchy and have a yeast infection or BV every month. I get the meds for the bv and then I get a yeast infect. My obgyn that inserted the mirena told me that bacteria can grow on the string which causes you to get infections. I lost my insurance so now I have to go to the health dept. the obgyn at the health dept. told me that you can't get infections from the mirena, when I went there to get it removed (which she talked me out of). I have had migraines that have lasted for 2 days, I'm always getting infections or itchy with odor, I have had sharp stabbing pains in my left side and im nauseated a lot. Now I don't know if those are all in connection with the mirena but it all started after I had the mirena put in. This Friday I have a doctors appt. I am having it removed so I will let everyone know if it has helped me at all. I'm worried about becoming pregnant but I don't have the insurance to keep going to the doctors. I'm getting so used to these infections that I don't even remember what it feels like to be normal down there anymore, so I have to do something about it.

OMG! I seriously thought I was going crazy and insane. I had the Mirena inserted on Dec 30, 2009 and I am having it taken out on Monday, March 28, 2011. Where do I start?? Insertion of the Mirena was extremely painful!! I have a pretty high tolerance for pain - I even had natural childbirth). What was supposed to be a 20 minute "simple" procedure ended up being an hour. The "procedure" itself took 15 minutes but the remaining 45 minutes, I remained laying down on the Dr. table to collect myself - was cramping, broke out into a cold sweat, felt dizzy and thought I was going to faint. Some of the side effects that I have experienced from the Mirena - teenage acne - and not your regular whitehead zits that you can easily pop, but the sebaceous (ulcers) kinds that you can't pop and take 2-3 weeks to go away; migraines; tingling in the extremities; abdominal cramping; lack of energy; irritable; bloated feeling; weight gain; depression; nauseated; anxiety attacks, lack of sexual interest and worst of all continual yeast infections and BV!! I didn't make the connection with all the symptoms that I was experiencing until the last couple of months after doing some extensive researching. I would always blame my symptoms on other things - stress at work, home, gas from indigestion, etc........My husband and I went even so far as to making accusations that one of us was having an affair and causing my abnormal vaginal discharges and recurring infections. I now know all the side effects I have been having is totally due to the Mirena. I have never experienced any of these effects for my 38 years of life!! I can't wait until Monday!! It has been nice not having a period for the past year but I would gladly go back to having a monthly period rather than put up with everything that I have been through the last year!
