I got the Mirena inserted October 2017. Prior to Mirena, I had never had a yeast or BV infection in my life (I am 34 years old). December 2017, the infections started. I have officially been diagnosed with BV twice and have had about 7 yeast infections. The Gyno visits and prescriptions have become expensive, not to mention a huge pain. The Drs have said what many others have commented here (it’s not the Mirena and encouraged me to keep the IUD). My boyfriend and I agreed to have it removed as it cannot be good for my health to have chronic infections and all of this started just after the insertion. I had the Mirena removed a week and a half ago and am hoping that will help to clear the infections. I started a boric acid treatment yesterday as the prescription medications are not working. The Dr actually wanted to put me on Fluconazole for the next 6 months to try to break this cycle! Praying that the boric acid works. I wholeheartedly wish I had never had this stupid thing put in my body! It is helpful to know that I am not the only one this has happened to.

I have found, getting the cream works best for me. After sex, I put a small amount to a quarter of the application tube amount inside and it has kept me from getting bv for years or at least until the entire cream has run out...whichever is first. Good luck ladies!

While I had the Mirena in place I had twelve yeast infections and BV twice within 12 months! I’ve had the Mirena out for 6 weeks and it’s for first time in over a year that I haven’t had a yeast infection and my vagina pH is th closest to normal it’s been during this entire ordeal. My OB removed the Mirena and confirmed that about 1:10 of his patients have this same problem.
