How old are you Bill? Do you have any cardiac history? How's your general health and blood pressure? Do you get short of breath? Any pain? What makes this better or worse? Do you take any medications?

Without knowing more, there is the possibility of it being cardiac related.

Post back, be as specific as you can.

I'm concerned with a possible cardiac connection too, as well as thyroid. I'm pretty regular with my check-ups & I've never had red flags, except for low iron & high uric acid. I'm 51 & not on any medications. The first time I had one of these "attacks" was when I was about 24. The pain as I said starts in my throat, but doesn't appear to be swollen glands. The pain isn't agonizing, but people see that I'm distressed, and looking in the mirror, my eyelids are quite puffy. BTW, my mother had a history of angina.

Does anything trigger this? Physical activity? Something you eat or drink? How about smells? Does it matter if you're lying down or upright?

Have you had your thyroid checked? A cyst is a possibility. So is an inflammation of your carotid arteries. Carotidynia sort of fits, especially as you mention "puffy eyes."
