I just started drinking more water everyday. I carry a bottle with me at all times and it has helped tremendously!!!!!!! I am sitting here now with no pain. I am serious, it has really helped me. I also cut down my coffee intake as well. If I have a latte, I make sure to put in extra effort with my water consumption. I make sure to have the allotted 8 8oz glasses a day if not a little more. I fill a gatorade bottle and try to refill it at least 3-4 times. It has made my pain dim to almost nothing in a couple days time. I noticed a difference the first morning. I have also been trying to sleep on my back with my head propped up a little, going for walks a bit more, and trying to empty my bladder before bed and not drink a lot before going to bed. Going to bed with a full-bladder is not good for us. Try these tips. They are dramatically helping me. I am a 24 yr. old female with this problem for about 5 months now.

I think the best thing is go natural and start with some green tea. That is a good cleanse and for cryin out loud stay away from beer at night. Stick to having that about 7 at night maybe just on the weekends.

Hey everyone,

Might be à bit late but thought id share my experience.   I have the exact symptoms and found that I have a puj which is a blockage in the ureter near the kidney.  It causes hydronephrosis which is a back up of urine because the kidney takes so long to empty.   This was found by mistake during an ultrasound.  The MRI confirmed the PUJ and I now get regular nuclear medicine scans to monitor the flow and function of my kidney.

Hope this helps

I read on the internet that the pain can be cured with vitamine D. I tried it, and it works.
Vitamine D cannot be produced by out body without sun, that changes the colesterol in our skinn into this vitamine.
More sun, or more fat fish, or more fish liver oil, or vitamine pills.

Try it.

Wow, I am 26 years old and started having problems with my kidneys about 4 years ago. I actually noticed it when I started to hold my pee longer than I should have in the mornings being lazy not wanting to get out of the warm bed. But here lately. Past year, the pain is every day. Sometimes it lingers throughout my day. I work in the hospital as a RRT and it's hard sometimes to walk around and bend over so much because of this pain. I went to the doctor a year ago, because I noticed that every morning when I woke up my kidneys were killing me. The pain was horrible, but as soon as I urinated there would be immediate relief, with the rest of the pain tapering away in about 5 minutes ususally. Do you know what my doctor said? Your overweight and need to do back exercises. I was floored. This is not pain because I am fat. This is real, and something is really wrong with me. This morning when I woke it hurt so bad I wanted to cry, and trying to pee was horrible. It hurt awful to pee. The pain is still lingering also, and it's been around 20 minutes. I'm scared. I'm terrified that something is truly wrong with me. Someone please help.

I've had exactly the same problem since finishing chemo 18 months ago. Kidney scan and urologist detect no problem. After reading this site and others I've got complete relief by sleeping on a wedge so my head slightly higher than hips (allows kidneys to drain during the night). Also noticed that caffeine drinks cause problems, even with the wedge - pain returned slightly recently when I had a few days when I drank quite a lot of coffee. Normally I have a lot of low caffeine green tea. The first night sleeping on a slope and the pain was gone like magic.

I suffered with my right kidney being filled up and not emptying until I was sent to a urologist. I had chronic cystitis. I still have the lower kidney pain in the mornings when I wake up but have noticed if I drink more water it is not as bad. I have to take antibiotics for the rest of my life because of this condition. The best thing to do is go to a urologist and find out the underlying problem. I went to Dr's and spent time in hospitals before I was finally referred to a urologist. Trust me, you do not want to take the chance on a blood infection. I ended up with a scarred kidney because it took so long to find the correct answer. I was miserable, tired, worn down, in pain, etc. Hope this helps someone.

hi! i hope you feel better after i tell you that if your results are fine, you should look into interstitisl cystitis, yours is probably severe, and doctors will not tell you real deal! so if i was you i would order online colostrum from new zeland and quercetin, vitamins to boost your immune system so your body would do the work of repair! i had this and was like old granny 21 y old,but after year of takin these supplements i feel even better and there is no pain what so ever no more! let me know if this works! sandy

RELIEF!!!!!!!!!!!   I may have found the answer for some.  I had suffered with this problem of lower back/kidney/flank pain every day for about 6 years straight. Excruciating!  It seemed the longer I slept the worse it got. the more full my bladder was, the worse it was as well. It would subside somewhat immediately upon getting up and going to the bathroom and then subside completely after an hour of moving around and going about my day. I had been through every test the doctor could think of. i had an MRI, ultrasounds, blood and urine tests, etc.  Nothing.  I tried everything from altering my protein levels, to drinking more or less before bed, or waking in the morning, to urinating in the wee hours of the morning, to cranberry juice, and nothing worked consistently.  I was at the end of my rope and very scared that I would end up with kidney failure at some point because my doctor couldn't find anything. So.....the relief......  my grandfather was talking with me one day about this, and mentioned to me, with his thick German accent that he "catches a cold in his kidney's" and then he gets a sore back the next day. I couldnt tell if he meant that when he gets cold around the areas of his back, he gets sore, or if he meant actually getting a cold in his kidney. I thought, "okay, that is different", but dismissed it because it didn't relate to me I thought.  Soon after that though, on one early morning when I was having a particularly painful morning, I realized that I was also feeling cold because I had kicked off most of the covers in the middle of the night and the bedsheet that I did have on kept slipping off my shoulders because of my wife moving around. This is something that happened every night and I realized that I had complained to her for years about my "bare shoulder" problem and she always replied "well... wear a t-shirt to bed dummy!"  The thing is though, is that I prefer to sleep in the nude. I find that my body temperature changes too much and I get overheated when I wear clothes to bed. BUT, when I began to think about what my grandfather had said, I gave it some thought and decided to try sleeping a night with a t-shirt on....heck, I was willing to try anything about this point.  I had already spent hundreds of hours on forums and health sites just like this one.  First night.....back pain was about half of what it normally was, the next night, very minor. Every night since then I have worn a t-shirt and have not been cold or shivering, and have also not woke up with debilitating back pain every morning in kidney area. I don't know how they are related exactly, but I do know that I can sleep in now and and only have a minimal amount of back ache in the morning, somedays none at all.  If you have no other underlying medical condition, or no other symptoms, and your doctor can't figure it out, give this a try...no harm, no foul.

i have had the same issue for a year now, pain not alleviated by going to the toilet and regardless of whether i have an empty or full bladder, pain is there anyway, until i get up and walk around for 5-10mins then all ok for the rest of the day until i sleep, and start to feel the pain at 5-6am just annoying and enough to keep me awake......test all ok, not gone to check if it is a spinal issue, took naproxem for 2 weeks and worked wonders, went off it and pain soon came back......wondering if it has to do with the toddler and how i carry or put him to bed in his cot 13kg and bad bending and posture at work at desk may be causing this, but don't know why only in the moring hours/

no problem since. I can now sleep in when I want to. I am not sure if I was too cold in the night and it was causing back spasms or a problem with my kidneys or what. I do know that it was alleviated to a certain degree when I urinated in the morning, but since I began wearing the tshirt to bed and being much warmer(sometimes too warm), the pain has gone away. what can I say?
