I have had this same problem over the years and have no doubt in my mind it is caused when I drink too much diet coke and not enough water. Pain in my lower back around the kidneys, especially on the weekends when i tend to sleep in longer. Pain lessens and eventually goes away once i sit up for a while. A few years back I had stopped drinking diet Coke and had no more lower back pain. Eventually I started drinking it occasionally without problems. The last two days I got a large diet coke at lunch time and today, Saturday, I slept in for 2 hours an d when I woke up I had so much pain in my back I could barely roll over and had to have my husband help me sit up! I am sitting here right now with just a dull ache, drinking water and scolding myself because I know better than to drink that much diet coke! It is hard to give up something that you love, but soo not worth this pain!

Sher, i think you should go for further tests to find the clear causes. If it is caused by kidney problem, you should take it as early as possible. Many kidney diseases do not show obvious symptoms in early stage and develop latently over years. So i suggest you go to see a doctor at once.

hi, did you solve your problem ? ive just had a problem myself that sounds the same, i cut out all tea and coffee and for the last 3 days the pain has slowly got better, still there but alot better.
im going to stick to this to see if it go's all together, i hope so as ive had this for a year now !
some one told me you can suddenly get an allergy to an acid that is in tea. i dont drink much coffee anyway so i just quit them both.
hope this can help someone else

I too have this lower back-Kidney pain. I have a bad back so I thought (for years) it was my back. I litterally cannot turn my torso to wipe my bumm in the morning because the pain and tightness is so bad. All simple tests have come out clear??? This has been happening to me for about 5 years. I drank a pop last night before bed and am paying for it with extreme pain today. Gonna try extra water to see if that helps and of course stay away from pop! If anyone knows of a test I should have...please inform...Thank you and Good Luck to you all on living a pain free and healthy life :)

When i do not take any pain-killer like NSAIDs for my headache or any other medicine for any pain, tea or any other drink other than water, i wake up fine.

I cannot believe how many people also deal with this! I was so worried that I can a serious kidney infection, or cancer, or something god awful. Mine started about 3-4 months ago. It only hurts when I sleep for 7-10 hours on my sides. When I am on my back it alleviates the pain somewhat. It is only made a little better when I get up to go to the bathroom. I think the symptoms have changed slightly. It used to hurt worse in the morning, to the point where I could not breathe much or move for approximately five minutes. The slowly my muscles would ease up the tension. Mine seems to be lower back and not specifically one side or the other. Its on both. No visible blood but I do know I need to drink more water. I am going to try exercising more and strengthening my back. Alone with drinking more water and changing the way I sleep I hope that will help. I do not have health insurance so by reading this I am going to attempt all of that for a few weeks instead of wasting my time and money to go and get no diagnosis from a doctor. It makes me so upset when I spend money to get the same advice from them as I could get here. Frustrating! Thanks for everyones posts. If anyone goes to a doctor or finds out anything that helps please keep posting! You guys have made me feel so much better!

I can't believe how many people also have this issue! I thought I was crazy or something was seriously wrong! It is such a strange, strange thing. If anyone finds any information out please post it. It seems like people forget to update on their treatment. I am 24 and without insurance and would love to not have to waste paying out of pocket for advice I could find myself. What has helped everyone? It seems like a general healthy eating and exercise regime is the answer..also drinking more fluids. I too do not drink enough water but have been after reading this two days ago. My first night was slightly better with more water and my head slightly elevated. Will keep trying. Thanks everyone! So much help!

there's no blood in my urine but the pain is there. it started happening a few years ago but only when i was cycling and was exhausted and thirsty. it only happened a few times back then but now i'm having it when i wake up and i don't do any exercise. it's not happening every day but once every few days. yesterday was the first time both kidneys hurt and the pain didn't go away the whole day. will try to drink green tea or some herbal tea in the next days and if it doesn't help will have to go see a doctor.

im also having this pain and im 19 i don't know how common it is between the younger generation, it happens maybe a few times a week and it feels like someone has got a knife and rammed it threw my left side, just underneath my ribcage and progressivly hurts every-time i breath more than a quarter. It happens when i wake up in bed (nowhere else) and always on that side. I really want it to stop but in England were poor here and the doctors wont give us an ultrasound willy nilly also takes about 2 weeks or more to book. Everywhere i go on the net either says its the back or the kidneys
CAN ANYONE HELP ME
