I think that its because alcohol causes both Dehydration and blood circulation problems
both bad blood circulation and dehydration cause cramping and both are caused by alcohol.
i just finished drinking and even though the alcohol withdraw almost killed me im clean now.
i feel much better and the cramping is gone.
its all to do with alcohol mate your best to drink at the pub than get a taxi home or get someone to drive you home dont walk or you'll f**k ya muscles up bad or just drink at home.
i used to drink 2 cartons of beer a week wayyy to much.

Peripheral neuropathy.  That is what you have.  Genetic but also caused by diabetes, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, nerve damage, and a host of solvents and chemicals you may have encountered at your workplace.  Treatable, but if no cause is determined, may be hard to treat and is irreversible.  Don't drink, eat a balanced diet, exercise, and take pain meds from your dr. if needed for severe pain.

I've been getting this a lot lately. Seems like the next day after drinking a lot, I get really bad "charlie horses" in my calfs. More so in my left leg than my right though. After reading all this, I'm sad to think I have to give up alcohol, but I guess I've had a good run.

Sulfites seem to be the culprit for my husband.  Beer and wine contain sulfites.  Also caramel color, which is found in colas and some beer, has sulfites/sulfates.  Any ingredient with the letters "sulf" or "sulph" bothers him.  The artificial sweetener asulfeme potassium, sodium bisulfate...   Even some pastas and breads, and baking powder (sodium sulfate).  And dried fruits... he gets leg pains after eating granola!  I check ingredients for everything I buy or order for him.  Symptoms started 2 or 3 years ago, he was diagnosed with parkinsons disease around the same time.  He can handle alcohol, provided it does not contain sulfites.  Even bottled lemon/lime juice has sulfites, so we make our own margaritas with frozen mix (using only clear tequilla, not gold).  Has anyone else found the leg pains to be caused by sulfites?

It is the alcohol causing the leg cramping and pain.  You all know it.  The belching is because your over weight and your abdomin is bloated and pushing up on the valves of your lower and upper digestive systems and it causes the belching.  Quit drinking, start exercising and lose some weight.  We all know that the drinking is a short feel good habit that has all kinds of bad reactions and causes damage to our bodies.  If you really want a feel good habit, drink more water, drink some tonic water which helps against leg cramps, stop drinking and workout.  Your body will really feel better and make you feel happier!

i think its got a lot to do with dehydration because alcohol dehydrates you real bad.

I have the same problem. I found that it only really hurts after i drink a lot also. Thought it would be because im still only 17 and am very tiny so didnt think there was enough space in my arteries and veins in my legs for my bllood with all of the alcohol to flow through. I remember my doc had to use a baby needle cuz my arm veins were so small last year. Neway i feel like my lower right leg is gonna explode sometimes. Thought about it this morning n it doesnt seem like it has anything to do with my size from the looks of these forums. Take care people

I have this same problem with the pains throughout my shins and knees, i found that eating a banana or two the day after I drink completely eliminates the pains in my legs, so before anyone gives up drinking, especially if your 16 like me to try eating bananas after you drink.

I drank a lot of tequila last night, and woke up around 6 am with serious sharp, achy pain in both my forearms, and both my thighs. Had a hot bath with epsom salts and it seemed to go away, mostly.
