I was prescribed atenolol first time I was found to have nigh blood pressure. However, my blood pressure hasn’t changed much since starting this drug and my BP remained high. My doctor put me on Linsinopril now to see if this will work. I am interested in what kind of drug this is and how it differs from atenolol? Does it guarantee success?

Hello! Atenolol is a beta blocker, which reduces the workload on the heart by slowing the heart rate allowing the heart to pump more efficiently. They lower hypertension by affecting the central nervous system. Lisinopril is an ACE-inhibitor that interlocks the production of angiotensin II, which is a chemical that body produces to raise blood pressure. No, lisinopril will not guarantee you success but if it doesn’t work, your doctor may prescribe a diuretic to go along with it.
