Hi! I am 5 days post surgery 1 screw. Injury happened on June 20. ER doc said mid foot sprain referred me to ortho who referred me to foot ortho specialist. I spent 2 weeks in a boot thinking it mustn't be that bad. After reading some if these posts I guess its not. It is so difficult to be non-weightbearing. The interesting part is that duringmy boot weeks I had no pain and only slight swelling at night. I even flew to visit a client for 2 days--no problem Any tips appreciated. I was walking 1-2 miles a day. Traveling for work 3 times a month. Stitches and new cast next week . Looking forward to reading encouraging posts. Anyone doing water physical therapy?

I am 33 years old and just receive a lisfranc
Fracture this Sunday . The doctor is suggesting the surgery it sounds like mostly
to prevent arthritis . I just got hurt Sunday
And it's now only the following Friday and
I'm not in pain. Of coarse I'm in a splint and
Not walking on it at all . So I have to decide
By Monday if I want to do surgery on Friday .
I oviously don't want to have surgery or two
Surgeries for that matter. Any advice???

I'm 12 days post injury. 1.8mm displacement. I've decided to go nonsurgical for now. I've read a lot of posts, I don't see any difference in getting arthritis as an outcome due to surgery/no surgery. I've ordered a TENS machine, if it helps me I'll let you know, but you may have elected to have surgery by now.

Yes I've been off my foot using a scooter for

The surgery. I have had no pain since the first few days. I haven't even had swelling since
I got the soft cast off. I'm now just using a compression sleeve under my boot and nothing at night. I did follow dr orders and have not put any weight on it .

Yay, GOD is good!!! My X-ray looked good and I now have the ok to do minimal weight bearing. I can walk using crutches to take some of the weight off and I am using the walking boot still. Crutches are certainly not my favorite but it should just be two weeks then I will be in regular tennis shoes with costume made insoles. I'm not sure what I TENS machine is but I would like to know if it helps. I'm applying pressure my foot doesn't feel good but not really painful. Feels tingly I hope that's normal and goes away soon.

So far so good! I would take it slow! but I wouldn't worry about tingly feeling, I'm sure that is gonna come and go. Some people have reported numb areas after quite some time. Last night I thought my sock was sticking to the bottom of my foot finally realized the skin over the balls of my foot was just tight and strange feeling. I wouldn't over use your foot, I think its too soon, unless it doesn't hurt. thanks for the update.

It has not been hurting really. I have even been alternating between using both crutches , one crutch, and even no crutches for short distances. I just make sure the are both close by incases I need them. I don't have much
swelling if any so I don't think I'm over doing it. It always feels tight after my first few steps after sitting a while. Over all I am so happy . I was terrified after reading so many other stories. I'm glad I listen to the dr and didn't walk before I was ready and I'm so thankful for all the prayers I received for a quick and complete recovery. I know you are early on it this injury and you are probably going to have difficult and frustrating days but really try to listen to the dr and not walk to early. Just think how much you would hate to have to start all over . Or have surgery you many not have needed. About you thinking your sock was bunched up I had that same feeling before.

You don't know how much I appreciate your progress!!!! I am so thrilled to hear your news. Even though I have some displacement, otherwise my xray didn't look that bad to jump right into cutting it up and putting metal in it! Thank you Thank you! The fact that you're not having much pain is unbelievable compared to the people who have had surgery. Believe me I'm staying off my foot, luckily my husband has been very helpful and not to mention the well wishes and prayers. Thanks again for the post!

I was worried to because I too had a 2 mm displacement . So far so good. If you have any questions or concerns I can help with . Feel free to ask. I don't know how good your dr is but mine isn't very informative or helpful. I'm glad my posts are helping you.

Awesome, my displacement is 1.8mm. I think my Dr. is a good ortho guy but I didn't grill him on how many Lisfranc's he's done. He said, Frankly I've seen old Lisfranc injuries on xrays of 80y/o people, that had said they were o.k. after it healed, basicly their Dr's said to grin and bear it. I said I need the best outcome so they were pushing for surgery but after hearing all the risks and thinking about it I was put off. I'm in Asheville so specialists aren't as easy to come by. I've been waiting 2 months for Moh's surgey for a spot on my face, not thrilled about that, another reason I didn't want the other surgery. I work as a nurse supervisor in a very large building but I had them replace me due to the other surgery coming up. (I didn't have benefits) but I have other income. They are always short there so I can work whenever I'm ready basicly. It would be nice to be able to garden next spring . . . hey, now I'm just rambling . . . . what a strange injury, huh? having the bunched sock feel again . . . that's funny that you had that too. o.k., if you learn anything new let me know.

I actually went back to work after one week since I wasn't having surgery and nothing was changing for awhile . I went back especially since I wasn't getting paid after that week. I used the last of my vacation and had no disability pay at my job. I'm a preschool teacher it was pretty difficult somedays but I was extremely lucky my co- workers were so helpful . My husband and kids helped out a lot at home so I could rest after work. I will say if you don't already have one I'd rent a knee scooter. That was such a life saver. It rented it from a medical supply store for 65 a month. I couldn't of worked without it. Today I am 8 weeks and a day since my injury and I have been walking with out using my crutches and hardly any pain just a little discomfort . I'm still in my walking boot as long as I keep it pumped it good I can walk without the crutches. The only issues I need to call the dr about is my big toe and sometimes the top part of the bottom of my foot turns purplish but when I rub it it goes back to regular skin color. So not sure if I'm having a circulation issue or something . Ill let you know what the say . I hope it's not a big deal like a clot or anything.

Wow, that's great that you can work! I can't do patient care without my foot which I need to be able to do, even though as supervisor I do less. I was curious, do you wear that boot to bed? you put air in it? Mine is like a Velcro boot, I'm wondering if it's stabilizing my foot enough. I bought a scooter for $200 on amazon, it is a life saver, I went to vote today with it. Let me know what your Dr says. Pretty sure that our foot will look pale, purple and swollen at times, clots usually cause a distinct pain, but would be interested to see how the Dr explains it.

Well I left a message for my drs office around 9:00am today it's now 3:43pm and still haven't received a call back . I did explain my issue to the women on the phone so I guess they aren't to concerned. I think it might just be a matter of getting the blood flowing again now that I am weight bearing. He did seem a little surprised that after 7 weeks I still had a big bruise on the bottom of my foot so I was concerned that might be a related issue. I also have a Velcro boot it has a blue circle on the top that pumps air around the edges to make it tighter and a knob to hold air or deflate . When I walk I fill it tight and I have been getting around great no crutches. I don't sleep with anything on my foot now but I did have a soft cast or something on it before. It's just this wet stripes that dry and get a little harder with an ace bandages over it . But I don't have that now. At night I have nothing on . During the day I have the compression sleeve under my boot. I still use the scooter at night and in morning before and after I take the boot off. I have put no pressure on my bear foot yet. Hope you aren't in any pain and aren't to frustrated yet. Glad you made it out to vote. I too just waddled in to vote .

No one told me to wear compression but maybe because they thought I was going to get surgery, I'll look into that. This one girl who didn't have surgery was still swollen after 8 weeks NWB in a boot. I contacted her for an update since it had been 6mos. She said that she was walking well now. The top of her arch was a little bigger but she was wearing regular shoes and they felt alittle tight by the end of the day but not really painful. She also said she didn't have displacement but I'm wondering about that considering she was still swollen at 8wks. Anyway her outcome at 6mos seemed good compared to surgery. I usually feel pretty good in the day but by about 9 or10p my foot gets achy but not enough for a pill, I might put my boot down for balance but I don't put weight on it. I read one post of someone, after like 6 mos her foot would turn purple when she put it down but I think she had had surgery. Other people had chronic numb areas, like on their big toe. What a crazy injury! I used to work cardiac mostly so even though I've been working in rehab since I moved here I never heard of Lisfranc but I guess they are usually outpatient.
