I started my period when I was 9/10 yo, had regular cycles until my freshman yr in college. I gained what they call "the freshman 15" but for me it was more like the freshman 60. I went from 120 lbs to 180 in about a yr and from that my periods became longer which resulted in me becoming anemic. I went to the gyn and they told me to get on bc's or to lose the weight. Ive been trying that but now my period has been on for a little over a mnth now and within the last 2 wks ive been clotting a lot and bleeding through super plus tampons...I dont know if I should continue the weightloss program and see if it stops/regulates or if I should go ahead to the doctor to see if there is something else wrong with me. Please Help!
Yes, there could be something else wrong with you. Go back to the doc and have them check your thyroid! Both the weight gain and heavy period are signs that your thyroid is not working correctly.
