My husband and I are thinking about tubual ligation for me. We are both 29 years old and have already 3 children. To be honest, we are still sexually active but we can’t afford another child. Can somebody tell me if there are any long term effects of this procedure. Thank you

Hi! I had tubal ligation performed. You must know for sure that you don’t want any more children. I think that reversal is possible but not all the time. I was told that there aren’t many long term complications after tubal ligation but I have been experiencing heavier periods. Other than this, there are only some side effects following surgery like reaction to anesthesia, or possible blood vessel injury during the surgery but this last one is like minimized if you choose a proper doctor.

It might be too late now. But, don't have a tubal ligation done. Check out other methods. I am 26 with three children and i have had my tubes tied. I have had nothing but problems since. I have all the symptons of early menopause. You need to do some research on Post Tubal Syndrome. This will pretty much tell you all the information you are looking for about any long term problems. I wish I would have known about these things before I did it. Now, i feel like I am ruined inside and out. thanks for listening.

I am now 25 and had tubal ligation done 2 years ago and feel fine. I have had a regular normal period. I feel good about it. I am more sexually active and sex has become enjoying knowing I can't become pregnant. But be sure to research more about it if your not too sure of getting it done.

I am now pregnant with my 4th baby and my husband and I have been concidering a more "perminate" form of birth control, so I have been doing some research on my own about any possibul side effects that may occur, and I have been seeing alot of bad things that could go wrong including a type of "post Syndrome" for both tying my tubes as well as a vasectomy. Can anyone tell me what kind of chances I would really be facing in actually getting any of these side effects????

Hi I am 32 yrs old after having my tubes tided for 7 yrs. I have had a reversal done. and immediately after my surgery I could not believe the difference in how I felt. My back pain was easing up I am not tired anymore. There are many side effects to having your tubes tied and if my doctor would of let me k nown they never would of been tied. I have experience both sides of the pic and to all woman if its not broke don't touch it, CONDOMS!! Use them instead. Just think about it.

I had my tubes tied after my 4th son was born 12 years ago. Although it has been wonderful NOT to have to worry about contraceptives, I would NOT recommend it. I have more hormonal problems with the biggest problem being a lowering of my progesterone levels. I've gained weight, don't sleep as well, tired ALL THE TIME, I could go on because there are so many other symptoms. The only reason I had it done in the first place was because my husband couldn't have a vasectomy due to his family history of testicular cancer. So with that and the assurance of my doctor that there were no long term affects, I had the procedure done. Be informed, educate yourself and google tubal ligation effects and you will see the number of websites that talk about the long-term problems. I was relieved to see that it wasn't just me when I went through the various websites. I also noticed that we all had the exact side effects. Coincidence? I don't think so!! My advice is let the buyer beware.

Hope this helps!

I had a tubal ligation done 3 months ago after my second child was born. My advice would be NOT to get it done! Since then I have been very moody, tired, onset of sharp pains in my abdomen and I have only had one week where I have not been bleeding or spotting along with other issues. I have been talking with my husband and I am going to check into have a TR done whether my insurance covers it or not. I really dont feel like myself, I feel as my hormones have gone crazy. My husband even made a comment that he wants his "buddy" back. I wish I would have known all the side affects and long term affects before I had this done. PLEASE do research before having it done, I wish I would have.

I had tubal ligation performed also.. But in my case I have had nothing but problems with bleeding ever since. I can honestly tell you I had it 7 months ago and about 5 days out of each month I do not bleed. Then i start light spotting, and the pain gets greater. Then very heavy blood will follow for a while. I ended up going to emergency room one day due to horrible pain that wouldn't stop.. I can handle a lot but it was very overwhelming. They found out that I then ended up with Ovarian Cyst on my right side , and one had ruptured.. That was a side effect .. I never had anything wrong until I had this Procedure. I will not try to scare you because I am probably the 1 in 1200 that will have this problem..You must know for sure that you don’t want any more children Or just be safe.:-)

I had a tubal ligation done in 2007. My advice is NEVER EVER EVER DO IT! Honestly, I have not had all the issues like most of this other women, but I regret it tremdously! I am having a TR this spring and I will never mess with the natural order of things ever again. I have had the heavy flows, hormonal changes, acne, strange pains in the pelvic region, and headaches to boot. No. These were not present before. Also, I now want more children, which at the time of the TL, being 25/26, I never thought I would want anymore. I didnt think about the future and how I would feel. So, before you make things permanent and for certain, be absolutely sure you are concrete on your decision. And I mean YOUR DECISION! You decide, not any doctor, husband, parents, ect. I think that once you really reflect, you will surprise yourself with your conclusion. Be aware and thoroughly informed. More so than myself. It is the one thing in this life I regret doing. Dont make the same mistake.

i had my tubal done with the clips 5 months ago. the doctor would only do the clips due to my being only 27 and she wanted it to be reversible if i wanted to get pregnant again. i love not having to worry about getting pregnant (got pregnant on the pill 2x) and there arent many side effects. periods are like they were before i began birth control and there is no question about getting pregnant. i can feel when i ovulate now and there are light cramps every once in awhile. if you are happy w/ ur family size, go for it :-)

I just got the procedure done going on a year and a half ago and I've been experiencing painful periods like never before but I'm not sure if it's a side effect of tying my tubes or because I nursed for over a year, so I didn't get my period for about two yrs. Tough to know for sure. Anyway it's great not worrying about getting pregnant again! :-D EVER!
