I am a mother of a 10 year old daughter who has been describing much of the same things as I have read here. Constant sore throat, complaining of a lump in the lower part of her throat/neck. She says it feels like a rubber ball or something in there, she gets dizzy often and she feels like she can't get air. (she has asthma so it was hard to tell if it was her asthma or something else activating her asthma) Her asthma specialist said he does not feel it is her asthma.. She says often that it feels like someone is choking her. It scares her a lot. She often comes to me saying she does not feel right, she feels funny. She wants the lump to go away. We have been dealing with this for months now. She has been to emergancy sevearl times. Seen her doctor twice. Has had throat X-rays, chest X-rays, and a C T scan done. All come back normal, (thank the Lord) But then what is this! I mean she is not a child who normally worries or complains about anything. Her face began to swell on one side too. She was put on steroids for a while, then put on sinus meds, this helped with the swelling, ( I think ). The lump is still there and she has her bad days and good days, or bad mornings or evenings. She has a deep cough too that comes from below the voice box. We saw another doctor the other day, he has put her on meds for Acid Reflux, says it can take up to two weeks for it to start to help. I'm not sure if this is what she has or not but I pray the meds help her. It has been very stressfull, and it seems that it is something for sure. It is not something made up, it is NOT panic attacks. I do believe that with what ever is going on, it may make her panic and then she has to deal with both. But heck I would have panic attacks too if I felt this constant ball in my throat and felt like I could not get air as if someone had their hands around my throat. If she panic's it only makes everything worse of course, but a 10 year old who has had very bad asthma attacks and been hospitalized for a week because of it, and did not panic then, or who had her appendix on the brink of bursting and yet still did not panic, only complained for days of a sore tummy. It took her thowing up like crazy for us to see it was not just an upset stomach thing, she had to have emergancy surgery. With all that and not much complaining and doctors saying they don't know how she was not screaming in pain, I KNOW she is not making any of what she is feeling now up and I KNOW it is not panic attacks. It brings on a panic attack becasue she is so scared of how strange she feels and it has went on far too long! You would think in this day and age doctors would be able to diagnos things better instead of do guess work and then when they can't figure it out they tell you it is a panic attack. Hoping the acid reflux meds work and she starts feeling better! Hope you all figure out what is up with your symtoms as well. Keep searching for answers!!
My daugter had same at the same age and it was anxiety. It is triggered by an event. My daughters last was caused by Brisbane floods. trust me if there is nothing on the scans this is what it would be.
Hi there have you looked up a Doctor by the name of Mark Hyman. It sounds like she is allergic to something ?

I have some of the same symptoms as some people in this thread.
The very first thing you need to do is relax, don't stress yourself out as it DOES make things worse, believe it or not.
Second is go and have a check up (including blood pressure), be tested for endocrine disorders such as thyroid problems, diabetes, and coeliac disease, hiatal hernia and ulcers. Also might help to look up dumping disorder, trapped gas etc. If possible, have an upper GI camera (can't think of what this is called, sorry) which will show any abnomalities in your oesophagus and stomach.

I am in the same boat as you guys are and it is frustrating, I had this in 2009 when I went on holidays, but it lasted a week or two ad settled in until last year 2011, september, this time the doctor sent me for a gastroscopy and everything came out alright but they said globus dyspalgia, anyway they aske me to zorton and diapezim, zorton seemed to help but after sometime found that I wanted to burp but had difficulty burping, when I burp it relieves the blockage in throat , I find eating makes me feel better but no appetite, PH pylori ws normal, went to ENT said I have post nasal drip and need to do straighten nose, also have ppolyps sometimes I feel that there is Post nasal drip but sometimes nothing but the feeling in throat is there going upto my chest as if there is something stuck there too, when I take zyrtec or telfast that feeling goes away no problem with sleeping and it might come back in mid afternoon if I take a antihistamin other wise it creeps back up once I get up I can squuese my throat muscles and bring up a glue type of mucas, sometimes thick and clear sometimes, slighly offwhite and like pieces of glue. yuck disgusting and when I get upset it become 10 times worse, I too had problem with vision, pain that comes and goes when throat is prestty heavy aback of neck and rasing head up helps with the lump. I also have asthma taking the accuhaler too helped a bit. I am not sure if you can take the zyrtec for a life long thing
I took ginger in hot water which helped withe mucas a bit. but still the problem is there did not do the operation, also have a lump redish before the arch of throat. shoed it dto docot and they were not that worried I sometimes feel like my glands are ging to crush me, what to do only god can helpCna you take zortan for the rest of your life sometimes I may not feel anything and other times I feel it so bad
Should I continue with the zyrtec and not worry about the zorton for refflux, I hope you have found some relief. my test were normal even though esr was slighlty up but I had sinus problems and dont know if that played a role onto it, Burping give me somekind of a relief in throat.
God bless you all
regards
Heather

Right now, I even have a lump in my throat, sometimes it would last for a few hours or a few minutes, it's so annoying! And a few months ago when I was singing in my church choir I had a massive head ache and a few times I just wanted to lay down cause it hurt so much, like tight pressure. And even now I'm having chest pain. To get rid of that I usually imagine the "pain" flowing down to my stomach like a black hole. And I literally feel it happening, sometimes it comes back, but most of the time it goes away. But it's annoying as well. This has never happened to me before.... I think it's stress... becoming an adult really almost pushed me over the edge lol... but I think it's stress, cause it goes away when I'm happy and working out.

Hi,
I had the feeling of my throat closing up on me. This was after an episode of acid reflux that happened while I was asleep and nearly choked to death. Now I never had heartburn, or acid reflux before. Went to doc, he sent me to ENT and he told me it was the acid reflux, it irritates your throat so it does swell a little and gives you that feeling. He told me to take over the counter Zantac once in the morning and once before bed, he does too. After a few days, the closing feeling in my throat disappeared and I didn't have any symptoms for two years. I stopped taking the zantac and I did start to get symptoms again. Now I'm trying to lose some weight and change my diet to try and eat healthier.

I have been doctoring with many of these same symptoms for almost 1 year and after many appointments, tests and lots of medical expense, I'm still doctoring. I had 1 blood test come back positive that relates to a thyroid problem, but for some reason I don't feel it's being looked into as much as it should be. They are now looking at Mysathenia Gravis, which if I understand is related to a thyroid issue. I also have severe constipation with bloating that I've been doctoring for. I also understand that it's more common in women. I would love to visit with you. I've told my husband no one unless they've been through this can understand what it's like. You can feel great when you get up in the morning and by evening be so weak and tired that you are needing to rest. I have always been a very positive and energetic person and this is very hard on me. My husband is very good in helping me, sometimes I feel bad for him cause it's changed both our life styles. Just last week-end we missed 2 graduation parties because I had a bad day. Please tell me how they diagnosed yours and what your doing to help feel better. I have been saying all along that I believe I have an autiommune disease and I feel it's related to a thryoid problem, I have so many of those symptoms. I've also read that sometimes it takes 2 or 3 opinions to find out and I'm on my 2nd.

Hi i've just been reading your post about the sensation of a lump in your throat, I have had the same problem for a long time only now i've almost lost my voice I have also had a lump on my tongue for 5 weeks which is very sore and affects me when i eat or drink, I'm going for an Endoscopy next week to see whats going on, Can't come soon enough, But enough of my symptoms i noticed the you've been diagnosed with Fybromyalgia i have a sister with that disease and has had it now for 9 years, There is a lot of information on it but unfortunately there is no cure for it, It is a bad illness and it affects every part of your body my Sister goes to a Fybromyalgia support group every week and it has helped her a lot, You tend to feel isolated because you look well but in fact you could be in the most horrendous pain people don't understand enough about how it affects you. I hope you find the information it will out line all about the illness but your family needs to understand it too, Good luck for the future hope you don't suffer too much

Could be a mold problem. My son is going through this right now. I'm getting a product from my Naturopathic dr. today called FNG. He no longer sleeps in the damp basement. But we have to move.
