i had this 2 but my docotor suggested a ram of thyroid tests and it turns out my thyroid was the problem.... he said that when this condition persist with minor throat troubles its usually the cases and most docotors confuse it for reflux problems.......(which is common ) have any of you had your thyroid checked???

I started with this about a year and a half ago. Started with a pain in the throat when i inhaled on a cigarette. Within a few weeks my glands on my right felt painful and swollen under my chin next to my windpipe all the way back to my ears. I also felt like i had something in my throat.
I then developed Shingles down the left side of my torso...this came and went over about 3 months. The swollen glands remain now on both sides. My voice is sometimes husky first thing in the morning and i get a tickly sensation in my voicebox which makes me cough at times. My Doctor has me on Anti acids as he says i am suffering from acid reflux in my sleep which is burning/irritating my throat and vocal chords. Since i have had no improvement from taking these anti acids then i cant see this being the problem. Maybe i have a viral infection? Can anyone help out as it is driving me mental.

Hey, I've had the same problem with my throat, its ruining my social life; I've had it for almost a year now, at first i thought i was stress and engcity related; but i've taken a break from my studies, with no positive result. Then i thought i was because i smoked and drank alot; so i stop smoking, and took it easy with the booz, Im only 20, but working at sea puts alot of mental and physical strain on a human body. Then after that i thought it might be a alergic reaction, as most of the time my throat is worse after ive eaten. so i stopped drinking mik...still not helping. its strange how its always on and off. Went to the doctor, said that he could see my throat seemed red and irratated, but they took tests to see if there was any bacteeria in my troat, tests were negative....WTF is this sh*t.. going to see a specialist, thinking it might be my tonsils...the best way to describe the feeling is: when you stick your finger into the back of your throat, you get a puke reflex, its like a mildmild form of that feeling %-)

I have the exact same thing as analog model. Scares me to death too. I do have acid reflux, that I know for a fact, but I can't help but wonder, I've been smoking for about 10 years now too. That's what makes it so scary. I do notice improvement from honey and apple cider vinegar. They are good for this sort of conditions it seems. Though these might calm the pain they are not making it go away (though its only the second day trying this). I guess if there is no cough there is little risk of cancer? I'm 23 years old otherwise very healthy. And not smoking seems to help too, though I haven't been able to quite altogether yet unfortunately

started worrying my self sick to death. so i went to the doctors and he sent me to the hospital in the end i had full blood tests an x ray and what they call a barium swallow like an xray but more detailed. they could not find any thing at all. in the end after revisiting the doctor he found that it was just rhinotitas wich was set off by my hay fever and becouse i could not stop thinking about it it made it feel 10 times worse. once he told me this and asured me nothing was wrong the lump wnt away and hay fever tablets cured the rest. maybe you guys/girls suffering from the same thing. oh and the lump is actualy a nerve that swells up due to stress
i do hope this helps you all becouse i know what is feels like. and if it helps you anymore why not print this out and take it to your docotor and show him mite open his eyes a little bit after all doctors dont know every thing ;o)

But I think the keys for me were not eating before bed, sleeping on a slight incline, and definiely relaxing and avoiding stress whenever possible. The lump in throat feeling is almost gone and seems that my right tonsil is not quite as large as it was a week ago. Also, i have cut back smoking and drinking a great deal. Should quit altogether though :-P Feel better everyone and here is to a healthy lifestyle.

I used to get the lump all the time, I have one now since last night and was without it for a few years. I had the ENT check it out, barium swallow (which was miserable during and AFTER, imagine passing kitty litter!). Anyway, nobody could tell what it was but it went away on it's own. I read something today that sounds like EXACTLY what I have.

Well, I have been dealing with this same throat lump thing since April (it is now August). After four docs, an upper GI, and a throat scoping, we THINK it is an enlarged sublingual tonsil on my left side. Being treated presently with a medrol pack and an antibiotic. SEEMS to be going away. The upper GI had been ordered b/c the doc thought it might be related to acid reflux, which I've never had. During the ugi a hyatal hernia (sp) was found, so am being treated with meds for reflux, too. Also docs had thought it might be thyroid related due to the location but two TSH tests came back normal. I thought it was interesting that I was sneezing out the gazoo for the entire time I've had this lump. I've never had allergies before. There was no relief for the sneezing even after taking Claritin and Singulair. Now taking Allegra D with the medrol and I think we have the sneezing stopped. I wondered if my histamine levels were out of whack and caused the inflammation in my tonsil/tongue area......who knows?

Has anyone discovered what their problem is? I have had the sensation of a lump in the right side of my throat, very dry nose, and tingling in my right ear for three years now. It lasts all day from the moment I wake up until I go asleep. It has become very bad in the last few months, i.e. nearly an every day occurrence now. It used to be quite sporadic, but now it is driving me nuts. I get extremely tired with it and feel like I have to go asleep. I get pins and needles/numbness in my face. Pins and needles in my left hand and left foot.
Initially my GP said it was depression, yet I felt great, then he changed his mind and said it was Vit B12 deficiency. Then he added in Acid Reflux. (When I take the tablets for acid reflux, I don't get an improvement in my throat).
It has been so bad recently that my GP tested me for MS. But the bloods came back fine. So now I am being sent to a neurologist. I have not been sent to an ENT which would make more sense to me.
I am really at the end of my tether. I am not stressed in general, but this is making me stressed, frustrated and depressed and I am wondering now if it is physical or it is psychological. Anyone have any ideas....please

Unbelieveable! Just when you think you're the only one you've ever heard of with this problem... Same experience as everyone else. I went to an nose and throat guy, and he perscribed Nexium for acid reflux, which is not a problem. I worry that I won't be able to breathe one of these days because my tonsils will swell so much.
I guess the good news is that it seems that realistically, it's nothing life threatening, and I can deal with the discomfort as long as I know I shouldn't be doing something about it.

omg, I am so glad to hear im not the only one going through this. inthe past year I have had strep or whatever a couple times, just a couple weeks ago I had to go the the er because the pain was so unbelievable. I have been on penecillan for a few days, and I was feeling better, but now I have this lump in my throat. I feel like Its dry or something, but nothing I drink helps. and It just come and goes like an itch. grrrr I want it to go away so bad. im 20yrs old

Ok here's my symptoms. My right tonsil feels swollen, like there is something there. Sometimes, my throat will hurt up and down the rightside. Sometimes, it hurts on the left too. I have white phlegm like you guys have said. I get a sensation that little peices of food are getting caught, but I swallow just fine. Even though, i'll notice sometimes in my mucus ( cause I have alot of it now) I see bits of my chewed food or the color of the drink I drank?

I can actually see the part of the throat in my mouth in the bottom right that feels like a sharp pain / lump and it is actually very very small... Believe it or not, what seems like a large lump in throat may actually be smaller then half a pencil eraser... Its just slightly raised bump and if i touch it with a Q-Tip it brings the same feeling / reaction when i swallow...
So you may think something feels like the size of a nickel or quarter but seems based on experience... the size is probably 10 times smaller... Which probably makes it even harder to see by a specialist.
Mine started 3 days ago after smoking and eating sunflower seeds... Not sure what is the cause, could be neither of them... But wanted to give a heads up that it might seem bigger than it really appears..
Not sure whats wrong with my throat ill give it a few days... I suspect i got a blister from harsh smoking , or got cut from the shell on a sunflower seed.

In september 2008 I started to get this hairball sensation like there is something stuck in my throat I look and look in the mirror cant find anything I have even stuck my finger down my throat to feel for the lump I feelNothing! this is the most annoying thing that I have ever felt. I keep thinking that I have throat cancer or something really bad and it is stressfull and scary. I did have this sensation in 2006 and I saw a ENT but everything came back fine I do have acid reflux (gerd) and he saw scar tissue from that but at that time it only felt like a strand of hair stuck in the back of my throat it eventually went away then it would come and go. Now it has come back and it feels like a nickle size hairball in the back of my throat on the left side. I have my tonsills out. Anyway I have an appointment with A ENT this halloween so I hope it goes well. Thank you for reading this it helps to vent.
