I know this is old and that by now all of you have figured out an answer to your problems.
I struggled with the same thing for 3 years. Ive had MRI 's, CAT scans, Barium swallows, Incredible amounts of blood testing, tonsils removed, left lingual tonsil biopsied and nothing turned up.
In short i more or less learned how to live with it and not stress about it (yes it helps...seems stressing about it makes the symptoms worsen).
Anyhow, i just moved a few days ago and while i was doing the finishing cleaning in my bedroom (vacuuming) the left side of my neck became a bit more painful than normal...then the familiar lump feeling in the back of the throat on the same side.
So while im vacuuming i hit a really large spot of dust and its blown into the air and i started wondering if i had allergies. My dad and brother do but they have the normal itchy eyes, runny nose, etc... Heck, i didnt have anything to lose except more money going towards the ENT so i bought some Zyrtec. One hour later. Gone.
Its only been four days since then ( i know its a short time ) but still nothing. No lump feeling, no pain on the left side.
I realized also that when this all started three years ago i had moved into a really old house and it was always dusty no matter what i did (symptoms were the worst then). Lived there for two years. I was miserable. Then moved to a different place. Newer construction and my symptoms lightened up a bit so they were bearable. Since i have moved from that place a few days ago and been taking zyrtec ive been great.
ALLERGIES!
I don't know much but i don't have to. Have ten bucks? Go buy some allergy meds. I bet my last dollar it will help.
Best of luck dudes.

Wow, I could have written that my self! We have identical symptoms and I'm 6 weeks post-tonsillectomy and the lump is still there!

I have the same lump in the throat sensation on my left side for a couple months. I also feel like it's connected to my ear, too. Has anyone else had more frequent plugged ears when you notice the lump in your throat? I'm going to the ENT dr tomorrow. I'll report back. I've been freaked out that it might be a tumor.

I have the same exact symptoms as the last poster. If someone gets some relief from these symptoms, please let us know. I have been freaking out about it and my doctor is on vacation. The lump in my throat symptom, along with the dryness and irritation I feel in there, is really uncomfortable.

It sounds to me like it's allergies. I have had issues like that before and the only thing that helped me was an antihistimine shot. Have any of you considered it?

i feel for every one that have replyed to this post...I am 20 yrs old and i have had problems since i was fifteen and without the doctors help i am finding out more and more about what is wrong with myself just by doing research and thro ppl like you (thanks). but my left tonsil is extremely swollen under the left side of my tongue, i have a lump on the left side of my neck, i have had 1 of 3 swollen lymph nodes removed and tested( which came back normal), horribale taste in my mouth, pain, discharge from my ears, tonsil stones like crazy very annoying, and am very congested all the time. When this first started i thought i was dying and set my self into a panic attack, i had a hard time swallowing which freaked me out completely so then i started to hyperventalate so i was rushed to the hospital.
for years now i have been having to deal with this at times i felt like this is it i am going to die, but i just have horriable anxiety from all the stress of not being able to feel healthy at such a young age. I have had ct scans every antibiotic imagineable well it seems that way lol, blood test, i've been to an ent had a lymph node removed, ive been told by the doc. that its, this and that from smoking(i quit), my diet (i changed), acid reflux ( ive tried meds.). I would love to feel normal again, be able to eat carrots or other gritty foods that feel like thier getting stuck in my throat and freaking myself out, i hate this feeling and taste all the time. How can such a small part of your body make such an effect on someones every day life, i just want my normal healthy young life back. plz if any one can help nothing sounds abnormal or strange to me any more. i will do anything to breathe and eat and get rid of this anxiety. Thanks to anyone that took the time to read about my situation, i really hope i get some feed back.

I've had the same problems with lump-in-the-throat feeling along with swollen tonsils feelings. It runs in the family and I narrowed it down to stress. I had tests done at the beginning of the year last year (2009) and the doctors couldn't find anything. When I went on summer vacation from school and was only working, I never had this feeling. Now that i'm back in school with a job and internship, my throat started hurting again. Sometimes Advil works and sometimes it doesn't. Also if I get the chance I take a nap and when I wake up to finish my day my tonsils are fine. To help my stress I've taken on exercising more including yoga. It really does help relax.

Crazy - I've been having the same symptoms lots of people on this thread have for 2 months. I was convinced it was something serious, especially since I felt around in my mouth and found a bump on the back wall of the pharynx (which according to the doc, I have an un-natural abililty to suppress my gag reflex to do!). Been to docs 3 times, had anti biotics, mouth wash and blood test for EBV but nothing changed. Saw the ENT yesterday - tubes up the nose, more blood tests and currently waiting on them for a barium swallow appointment.
I'm past caring now. Stocking up on throat sweets and chewing gum, which seem to help. Will try some allergy stuff though.

I went to a ENT and he did an endoscopy and everything looked good but he told me that I may have silent g.e.r.d. I dont rely believe that. I have no symptoms. He did also say that the lump feeling at the base of my neck can be from swollen sublingual tonsils. I had my other tonsils removed so this makes since.

I have exact similar issue...but all the sites i have been to no one has been able to resolve this problem. So how the hell do we get rid of it?

I'm experiencing the same problem. I've been on bioxin for 2 years and after two weeks off of it my swollen tonsils come back as well as the lump; so i'll probably have to get them removed sometime this year. If you have symptoms along with the lump such as wheezing backaches or blood clots then seek medical attention immediately. Those are symptoms of lung cancer.

Hi, I had some sort of viral infection back in March, lost my voice, and then the sore throat continued to persist. I have the same symptoms everyone else has been talking about: feels like lump in my throat, if I'm not constantly drinking water, or am not talking for a period of time, it hurts worse when I swallow, and nothing really makes it feel better (ice cream is very temporary-mostly just while I'm eating it).
I finally went to the ENT in May, and he did the scope down the throat, but didn't see anything. According to where I told him the pain was (at the time, was really only on one side, and I could point to where it was on my neck), he said that he thought I had food/calcium deposits in my sublingual tonsils. I really didn't remember from anatomy that there were other tonsils than those we all normally think of. He told me that there were really only two things that could be done: using a WaterPik to spray the tonsils to see if it was food, to unlodge the particles; or, removal of those tonsils. He said that the surgery is not regularly done, but it is done. Fast forward to today, when I talked to the scheduling nurse, who told me I would need 1-2 weeks recovery time. Holy cow, I did NOT realize how much more difficult it is for adults to recover from tonsillectomies!!!
I'm so tired of the pain--it resolved on the right side (guess it must have been food), had about a week or so w/out pain, and then the left tonsil started hurting. I guess I should just deal with 2 weeks of pain (2 weeks is the hope, anyway), and then I wouldn't have to deal with a throat that was sore every day...
Anyone else been told that it's their sublingual tonsils??
