I had the exact same thing happen to me when I was 16 (the doctor even had me get an ultrasound to make sure there was nothing wrong) and again last summer when I was 20. Both times there was no real answer, but my period came back when I started taking birth control pills again. I'd suggest going to the doctor and asking about the pill.
