we found out that my mom had colon cancer 3 years ago when the tumor was removed, it had spread to her liver and they removed that at the same time. Then 5 months later more tumors in her liver, at the age of 75 they did a liver resection she was great for 1 year and now there are small node on her lungs we are schedule to start herbatox every two weeks and being told she might have 18 months... Is there any other treatment we should consider. She is otherwise very healthy and only take blood pressure meds for a migraine in her eye.

Hi lans, did the doctors happen to tell you what stage the colon cancer was at? It sounds like it was at the point where it has spread through her body so it is likely to show up in more and more locations. Did they tell you at all? Can you let me know?

You mom has stage 4 colorectal cancer and is on Erbitux (cetuximab). Since your mom still at 1st line of therapy, there are still a lot of options. Most people in colorectal cancer can go to 3rd or 4th line.

Other regimens available to your mom if Erbitux does not work include: 1) Avastin + FOLFOX (5-FU, folinic acid, oxalaplatin), 2) Avastin + CAPEOX (capecitabine, oxalaplatin), 3) Avastin + FOLFIRI (5-FU, folinic acid and irinotecan) , 4) Avasin + 5FU + leucovorin, 5) FOLFOXIRI (folinic acid, 5-fluorouracil, oxaliplatin and irinotecan) or 6) panitumumab.(Vectibix). You mom still has a lot of options.

The most important thing is you and your mom don't believe she has 18 months. We have seen patients who lived for years. You can go to and look at the story of a person who was told that he has 8 months to live and has lived for 5 years.

Keep on praying and let God take care of your mom!
