I am extremely frustrated with my doctors lack of caring. I started my period when I was 11 or 12 years old. I am now 23, from the very begining it has always been irregular, super heavy and lasted for months on end. I am known to get ovarian cysts that either dissolve or rupture. My doctor has never seemed to be concerned what so ever. The only thing he has ever been willing to do was put me on some sort of birth control. (at 12 my mother was very unhappy with this recommendation but when along since "doctor knows best") Well I have been on every form of birth contol and nothing has ever worked.
In Nov. 2003 I was in the ER with extreme pain, non-stop bleeding and diarrhea. I was told it was due to a cyst aprox. the size of a softball.I was seen in Sept. 2004 in an ER because I was in so much pain and bleeding non-stop due to a cyst rupturing. I was told by the ER doctor that I would never be able to have children due to my ovaries being scared from the cysts. (I now have two beautiful healthy children (3 and 1.5 y.o.)) I have lost all faith in the healthcare professionals I have been dealing with.
I started taking YAZ in November 2007 and my periods were a little shorter (aprox. 14-21days) but still heavy and irregular.
 To date I have been bleeding heavily since June 23, 2008 with pain in my left flank, I was urinating blood, have diarrhea, nauseated, migraines, fatigue and overall just not feeling my best.
 On July 9th I took myself into the ER and was asked to urinate into a cup and did so. I was told that I had a kidney infection, give an Rx of Keflex and told to go home. I took the Rx and have since stopped urinating blood(7/13/2008), however still have the pain in my flank.
 July 14 I took myself back into the ER for all the above reasons and they said that I do NOT have a kidney infection, they ordered an Ultrasound and said everything looks normal. They also drew blood and said that I am not anemic nor pregnant. (which I told them I was not to being with.) They said that I needed to follow up with my regular doctor because they have done all that they can for me and could not find any problems. The ER doc also said to tell my doc that I was in the ER and that she recommended that I have labs done to see if I have any sort of bleeding disorder.
I called my doctor on the 16th of July and he said that I am completely normal and IF I had a bleeding disorder I would know it by now. His exact words were "just ride it out."
He has NEVER been concerned about my bleeding, aches or pains. He has NEVER ordered anykind of blood test. I got a second opinion in Feb. 08 and they said that I was borderline diabetic and that I had thin blood and wanted me to follow up with my doctor for further testing on both. Still my doctor thinks they are wrong and will not help me.
I am changing insurance companies and doctors. :?
Does anyone have any suggestions on what should be done to help me?

Hey i feel like i found my twin!
I have the same storey as you, and currently i am suffering from a period that started on july 8th, i have been to the ER 2 times in the last week for extreme heavy bleeds and cramping.
However i live in canada so health care is basically free so i have been able growing up to have every test done in the book . Nothing there!! I am just irregular. At 17 i got so fustrated i made them do surgery well explorative surgery they found a cyst the size of a softball, took it off problem solved. So i thought they kept coming and eventually going away on their own. painful but tolerable to point.
I then had my son pregnancy was fine only took 2 mths to get pregnant, had a c-section was in labour for 4 days my cervix wouldn't respond to drugs . Oh well he was healthy.
i then suffered a eptopic pregnancy it ruptured taking my right tube with it.I then needed fertility help and nothing ever came of it. OK one kid at least i got one.
Then my periods basically stopped i got like 5 a year, Was nice.
Nowsince july8th i have had sereve bleeding, cramping , bloating and just a yucky summer.
I have had 2 ultra sounds today, which is what you need!! A regular ultrasound (like when you were pregnant) and vaginal one (not as bad as it sounds). You might have fibroids , and something worse its always best to know I believe i have fibroids and having a hystertomy but i am ok with that. Please get checked out or this may sound werid but theres a new show called the DRS write them a letter they might help you as well.
Good Luck
Michelle

I have been going through similar symptons over the past 25 years. I am 39 years old and have had problems with my period ever since I was about 15. I would sometimes have 2 or 3 months of nonstop bleeding and other times go 7 or 8 months without a period. I never thought much of it until I was in my early 20's and trying to get pregnant. My husband is in the military, so unfortunately I have been to a lot of doctors that kept wanting to check my thyroid. Needless to say, it took me almost 10 years to get pregnant. After i gave birth to my daughter I once again went to another doctor becuase of having problems with my period, execesive hair loss and hair growth on my uper lip and chin. A nurse practitioner of all people diagnosed me with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). I had a vaginal ultrasound and tons of blood work done to determine that I have PCOS. I had what they called a ring of pearls of cyst around each ovary. I have been told throughout the years that I really needed to see and endocronologist. Due to the military hopsitals having a crapy referal system, I waited almost 7 years before i was finally able to get the right docotor to give me the referral. I have been seeing an endocronologist for 3 years now and have mulitply blood and urine test done ever 6 months so she can check my progress after putting me on Metformine (Regulates sugar/insulin resistance), Spironalactone (helps block the male hormone that produces the hair loss on head and hair growth on face) and Norinyl (birth control pill to have regulate my period). I finally feel better after years of not knowning what was going on. I still have cyst that burst from time to time and have developed fibroids and polyups in my uterus, but I have learned to deal with this illness before it gets the best of me. My most recent visits to the doctor have determined that I only have 3 cyst on my ovaries now, I have lost 20 pounds over the last 2 years and ultimately had to get laser hair removal to remove the facial hair (I go back once a year for touch ups). The Spironalatone has helped to lesson the hair growth from coming back. So there is help out there, but nothings permanent, it's a maitenance treatment that will help you live a better life and feel better. I hope that this can help someone, so they don't have to go through years of trying to find answers.
