While I was in high school I had very good friend. She was 19 when she died. We’ve noticed she’s becoming strange with anxiety; she didn’t want to eat in public and so on. It’s just everything happened so fast and we didn’t have time to help her. Lately we found out it was anorexia. I still don’t know enough of this disease that took my friend.

Anorexia is eating disorder, where people starve themselves, thinking they are too fat. Usually begins in young people around puberty. Persons that suffer from anorexia are characterized by extreme weight loss. They are very skinny but are convinced that they are overweight. Some of the many techniques they use for weight loss are excessive exercises, intake or laxatives and not eating. Anorexia is characterized of intense fear of becoming fat. People with anorexia continue think they are overweight even if they become extremely thin, are very ill or near to death. Sometimes they can develop strange eating habit such as refusing to eat in front of other people. This disorder is most common among white people of higher socioeconomic classes, especially the ones involved in activities where thinness is looked upon, such as dancing, theater and distance running.
