I just noticed that my clitoris is swollen today. I took some benadryl to see if it'll help take down the swelling if it's allergies. I've never had it swell. It doesn't itch, it's just got a slight pain that's a little annoying. I know it's not an STD b/c I haven't had sex in like over a week. I just finished my period and I'm on the Ortho Evra birth control patch. I've been on it for quite a while and this has never happened.

Though I think it may be caused by the panty liner I used yesterday. It was kinda old and had a little bit of makeup on it, but it was the only thing I had on me for the last day of my period. I'm not sure if this is the cause of it.

If you have any help that would be great.

Do not immediately freak out. I had a very similar thing, and after looking at all of the postings about ER visits and alot of pain I started freaking out. It is very possible you could just have a pimple. I know it sounds weird, but thats what happened to me. They can even look a little bit like they are full of blood. When this happened to me, it got gradually bigger over the course of 3-4 days and became almost painful/uncomfortable to sit or move on the last day. But then it just seemed to be a little leaky tonight so i pushed on it and it popped. No pain, nothing, and it went away. So do not fret, you might not need a hospital visit. But if you are really uncertain/unfamiliar with this territory, then see a doctor.

I've had this happen 4 times in 12 yrs. It's an infection. My Dr. has prescribed antibiotics and advised me to take warm baths, using mild soap (glycerine) and soaking in the tub for a bit. Hot moist compresses like a wet washcloth heated in the microwave for a few minutes after and until the abcess opens. It's sort of like a skin boil. IF you dont follow these steps you could end up in the ER or OBGYN having to be drained. These steps have worked for me all 4 times.

It tends to show up after my menstrual cycle or an untreated yeast infection. You have to let that area breath and avoid underwear for a few days. Also avoid tight pants or thongs. I have come to learn that it is a trauma when an abcess occurs because this area is so sensitive. It can occur over and over. Avoid tending to the itching as you can irritate more. I hope this helps.

I'd like to reply to the very first post in this thread.

I have a constant urge to pee, and as a result my clit is engorged on and off and sometimes it burns. I had a urine culture done and it came up negative. The urge to pee is driving me crazy. It isn't an STD and not a UTI, so what is it? I'm starting to wonder if I have a cyst in an ovary or a tumour that's pushing on my bladder. Anyone have any other suggestions for what this may be?

I have been meaning to write this for some time as last year I spent time looking at these different discussions & was distressed to not find any anwers. I had a recurrent clitoral abcsess that just started one day, they generally got bigger over 3-4 days, ending up really painful (so painful couldn't walk or sit & i have a high pain threshold) several times ended up in A & E, nothing helped antibiotics, hot baths.....I was referred to a vulval specialist who couldnt explain what was happening & suggested I would just have to put up with it. When it happened for about the 6th time I asked my GP for 2nd opinion - I wasnt expecting anything but just wanted to be sure there really was nothing I could do.
I saw another vulval specialist who straight away diagnosed me with Lichen Schlerosis & advised that I was experiencing 'pseudo cysts' caused by the 'hooding' of my clitoris which had occurred as a result of the lichen schlerosis. This means that the normal fluids that are secreted would build up over time form the 'cyst' & then burst out an offensive smelling bloody p***y discharge.
I cried when she told me just through pure relief that someone could help me..& she has. I have been treated with topical steroid which I had to massge 10 mins every day & she was considering surgery to open up the clitoral area which may enhance my sexual experience but actually my only proble was the cysts. I was due to have a cyst 2months ago now & still no sign of it, I am very happy.
I am shocked that having seen several doctors (including a vulval specialist) nobody picked up on this sooner. The Dr I am seeing now agrees there is a big knowledge gap in this area......hope this helps some people out there!

I also had a swollen clitoris which was very painful to touch, i went to one doctor who told me it was bruised but the pain was so bad i wanted a second opinion. I went to another doctor who told me i had an abscess in the hood of my clitoris, this popped and drained BY ITSELF i was also perscribed strong antibiotics for two weeks which helped alot, the problem has never re-occured. I suggest anyone who has these symptoms to go to their doctor immediately, although embarrassing its the only way to get treated properly. Abscesses can be very dangerous if left untreated and sometimes potentially fatal.

I had this abscess on the hood of the clitoris twice, 3 1/2 weeks apart, the first time was the infection, the second time was the remain part of it that was left deep inside. It was extremely painful. First time, I was shocked, it was so swollen and out of proportion and broke by gently touching it with instant relief....lots of infection came out.  Second time 2 days same thing only no infection , just black strange thick string type mucus came out, again extremely painful.  This time went right to doctor, two examined me and said, this was the remaining part of the abscess that had not cleared out the first time, gave me meds to calm the area down and have to wait it out. At 60 this is not something I want to go through again !

Saw 2 M.D.'s today and it baffled them. After the weekend I go back to see one of the M.D. To be continued..

I have this problem currently where my clitoris is swollen and in pain. I went to the ER over it and they put me on bactrum and lortabs which has really helped. It got to where it was painful for me to even walk. If youre having this problem and you dont know what to do get to the hospital or schedule a doctor appointment with your ob/gyn asap! It could be something serious. I know it can be uncomfortable showing doctors places you dont want nobody seeing but yourself but trust me when youre in that much pain you really shouldnt care. They have all seen it before dozens of times. Dont put it off! Thats the worst thing you can do. Mine continued to get worse until I took the meds that the doctors prescribed. I am now feeling alot better.

I think I've just had the same condition. I thought I was feeling hyper aroused and I'm in between periods. I've had an unusually frequent urge to pee for a couple days, only I didn't really go that much.

Mine was a little white bulbous sack on my clitoris for a couple days and just gently ruptured with a little prodding. There was a small amount white gooey ooze that I wiped away with a cotton ball.  I don't currently have health insurance, so the thought of going to see a pro is a little daunting right now, so I've opted for a natural option for now.

I took several q-tips soaked in tea tree oil (which is an excellent antibacterial agent) and swabbed over the area several times and poured a little on the area to flush it with the disinfectant.  I'll write a follow up to let you know how it goes. In just a few minutes, with the pressure released, I feel a little more comfortable.  By the way, I also use the tea tree oil to teat the onset of occasional pimples and it really diminishes them.

I have had swollen /clogged ducts/pores on my eyelids. The eye doctor suggested warm compress and taking omega oils.  He says, that the omega oils will reduce the swelling and keep the ducts/pores unclogged and healthy.

I have not been taking my omega oils, because I ran out, and I've been stressed with too much to do.  A pore on my eyelid has gotten swollen and for the first time my clit is also swollen as some of you have mentioned.

I'm going to try warm compress and lots of omega oils.

Just a thought.
