Hello Pgh.girl,

Your jumpy legs at night is known as restless leg syndrome.  This syndrome can occur at any age and tends to get worse with age.  It can disrupt your sleep leaving you tired during the day.  There are a few simple things you can do that might help. There are medications available to help you with this if need be.  Currently, there is no know cause but research suggests it involves the neurotransmitter dopamine which is responsible for motor movements.  It is also reported that restless leg syndrome runs in families especially when it starts when you are very young.  Some genes have been identified that ar believed to be involved with this syndrome.  To ease your symtptoms remove cigarettes, alcohol and caffeine from your diet.  You can take and over the counter pain reliever.  Try taking a warm bath before you go to bed.  This is soothing and sometimes very effective.
