I had one large and one smaller skin tag removed 3 days ago. Oh dear lord am I regretting this procedure. I live alone so after I got a coworker to pick me up after the surgery (I was under general anesthesia) I had to drive MYSELF to the pharmacy to pick up my pain meds because I guess letting you leave with prescriptions that a surgeon prescribed from a hospital that has a pharmacy in it is just too difficult. I was still in pain but also drowsy from the operation and almost rear ended 3 different people. Was hoping to get my prescriptions delivered as the pharmacy was only 8 minutes away but “no we don’t deliver pain meds”. I started immediately drinking a LOT of water and taking a lot of fiber supplements and I finally had my first BM the second day. Holy hell I actually screamed on the toilet. I’m surprised my neighbor didn’t call the cops with how much I was screaming expletives. The pain started off at maybe an 11/10 and because I was constipated it just lingered. I know I’m not supposed to strain but it was and has continued to be the only way to get that first chunk out and then after that it was still 9/10 pain but it was over quickly. I was honestly so traumatized that I immediately went on a liquid only diet. The warm water bath does immediately help with the pain but the problem is that I don’t want to get out because I know the pain will start up again. I actually fell asleep in the bathtub last night. I think I have a bit of swelling but it doesn’t look nearly as bad as before. The doctor only gave me enough pain meds for 2 DAYS and even though it was so little I stopped taking them early because I didn’t want to have that constipation side effect anymore. I’m just on ibruprophen and am mostly pain free throughout the day, sometimes I get a short 6/10 pain spasm and then a lingering 3/10 pain. I was also given a topical cream but I really don’t think it helps. I had some hydrocortisone cream leftover from my hemorrhoid banding so I started putting that on to try and help with the itching and inflammation.

I know a lot of people on here are saying the surgery and aftermath is terrifying but not offering a lot of solutions. Personally I was using tea tree oil and the skin tags went down to maybe 1/3rd of their original size by the time I went in to get them cut off. I literally just put a drop or two of tea tree oil on my finger and dabbed it on like 3x a day. It took a couple weeks but it made SUCH a huge difference. The only reason that I stopped doing it (like 2 months before my surgery?) was because all the oil started irritating my vulva. Looking back now I wish I just continued the tea tree oil but just put it on a cotton ball and taped it to the tag instead so the oil wouldn’t trickle down to my other privates. “but that’ll take too long I want immediate results” old me was thinking, well if I knew that recovery from this could take 2-4 weeks and I’d be experiencing some of the worst pain in my life I think I’d just be patient with oil instead.

So the tea tree oil really worked? I've got two larger side tags that I've had for 20 years. They are getting bigger and more uncomfortable. I'm thinking of getting them removed, but these stories are giving me pause.

Take hair skin and nail supplements with SILICA in it. This will help your body repair the damaged skin. I did this for a pilonidal cyst near the same area.

I had my surgery 6 weeks ago, and the wound seems to have healed a good amount, but I’ve recently noticed something that looks a bit like a bone/cartilage/hard muscle and is white-ish poking out. It’s sensitive to touch.

Has anyone else experienced this? My first guess was maybe the wound healed incorrectly ?

I'm about 10 weeks in and it has been hell with the pain, I had them cauterised under local anaesthetic (I had a huge baby and ended up with big time hemorrhoids which left the tags) I've had exactly what you're describing from time to time, it's all part of the healing process. It's wear the skin around bunches and tightens a bit on it goes really hard on but if you apply vaseline daily (surgeons advice) and massage the area it loosens the skin up a bit. I still get loads of pain sometimes after BM but I'm glad I had it done. I've read other people's posts and apparently it takes 6 months to feel completely normal again.

I am on day 8 of anal skin tag removal resulting from chronic diarrhea from short bowel syndrome and developing an anal fissure. Not really concerned about how it looks - 56 years old and over that! The pain however is excruciating during and after bowel movement and due to my condition I go about 6-7 times a day. My only relief is sitz baths which are impossible during the work day do I suffer, sometimes barely being able to walk down the hall back to my office. I also have a constant “weeping “ and odd odor. Thought maybe I developed an infection but nurse said this was normal. Really? I have one spot that is so painful to touch when “cleaning up” after having a BM I almost cry! Is this normal and what is the healing time of when I can finally get some relief? I have been dealing with anal fissure for over 2 years- I want to be normal again!!
