The majority of polyps are not cancerous. Like cancer cells they are abnormal growths. Chances are your GI doctor will want to do a scope to make sure they are not cancerous.

If you have Ulcerative Collitis or Chron's they may be a different type of polyp but there is still a risk of cancer.

They will do a biopsy of any polyps that might be cancerous (usually it's by size).
