Hi I have been bloating for a week now. Everytime I eat or drink something even small amounts, my stomach swells up. I dont feel any pain just bloating.  I have regular bowel movements. What could this be?

Hello,

Stomach bloating could have many different causes. You could have a food intolerance such as gluten intolerance, carbohydrate intolerance, or lactose intolerance. You may have also picked up a parasitic infection from contaminated food or water. However, since you are not having any pain, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, this is likely not the case.

It could be something as simple as trapped gas or a response to stress. I would recommend keeping a food/drink journal to start with. Note what you ate or drank, when you ate or drank it, and how bloated you feel. Be sure to note any other symptoms, even if they aren't gastrointestinal in nature. You may discover an intolerance to one or more foods this way.

If symptoms persist or worsen, contact your healthcare provider for a full checkup.
