I had exactly the same issues. I finally was referred to Dr Martin Freeman at the U of mn phycians. Biliary specialist. You may suffer from post chole syndrome or biliary colic along with spichter of oddi dysfunction. Please check into that. Also have your thoracic spine checked out, ESP T8 and T9. Stall these things cause debilitating pain and exercise only seems to make things worse, however it is important to keep your body moving. Try pool therapy. Also massage chiropractic middle back and neck adjustments along with acupuncture. Understand you are a chronic painer now and getting that under control will only help. Try to stay away from opiates use only when pain is at an 8 Or 10, or try Neurontin or tramadal or an Ssri. Get with a good care team. If ur Dr is not knowledgable about the above or if they are just pushing different drugs...then find a new Dr, remember always you are hiring them to perform a service, so you can fire them just as easy as you found them! Or go to a multidiplinary pain clinic. Hope this helps!

Hi guys! Good news!! Its gallstones still lodged in the body... I had my gallbladder removed 1 Dec 2008 and I had this terrible pain last week, like a wind that's stuck... anyway, long story short, its gallstones!!! Nothing hectic, just have it checked by a GP :)

take apple cider vinegar 2 teaspoons in cold water 1/2 hour before every meal and see how you go on. Its amaising i had same symptoms as you . you can still get gall bladder pains even when its removed. keep me updated on how you go on x

My guess, is because the Gallbladder was removed your Liver is under more stress, so it is prehaps more inflamed that is putting pressure on your rib cadge. Look for liver foods e.g eggs and see if it makes a change.

ANSWER: For those who've gone to docs and had tests run to no avail, and know its not an organ issue or other problem, go to a chiropractor! Because it sounds like what I I've had: A SLIPPED RIB.
Sometimes it hurts on mid/upper back left, through the chest like a dang heart attack, even causing arm numbness when I lean into it. Other times it's lower back right side. Just depends, and usually occurs after I do something strenuous like moving heavy stuff, or I get tackled by an overly playful young nephew, or even just have had a bad coughing fit.
A good chiropractor will pop you back into place and you'll be fine and wishing you'd not wasted all that time and money at the doc's office.
Chiros get flack but a good one works wonders. Bad headaches? Dizziness? Back pain? Joint pain? You'd be surprised the cause is simple misalignment of the spine or neck and a trip to a Chiro can cure it right up.

Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction!! I went thru the same thing and pushed my GI to check me for SOD after reading about it online. She referred me to a surgeon who specialized in it, I tested positive, & had a sphincterotomy (cut the muscle that lies at the end of the bile & pancreas duct). Pain free for past 3 years. It's more common for people who have had their gallbladder removed. I still have my GB so diagnosing it was harder because that's very rare, but you seem to fit the profile & symptoms. I was sick & in pain for 9 months before it was diagnosed & treated and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. The despair I hear in your post is hauntingly familiar. Check it out online. And if your doc says it's not SOD because your blood work is normal, he's simply wrong. My blood tests/scopes/biopsies kept coming back normal, I have SOD type 3. I truly hope this helps!!

Hi, I had my gallbladder out in 2005 due to some tiny gallstones. I have had pain ever since the surgery. I get pain in my right upper abdomen and it goes thru to my back on the right side. It's very annoying. I have had numerous CT scans, Ultrasounds, and MRI's which show NOTHING. It's kinda scary because I'm worried they might be missing something. I don't have any other symptoms except GERD. Very frustrating. It's a dull nagging pain which never gets too bad...but once in awhile it's sharp pains that shoot thru the area and they are very uncomfortable. I've seen various doctors and they again, cannot find anything wrong with me. I'm going to go back to a gastro doc and have a colonoscopy done just in case it's related to my upper/lower GI. Some foods seem to irritate in but I can't tell you which ones. The pain in so random but has been going on for 8 years. I wish I knew the answer. UGH!!!!!

My wife had a similar pain following surgery and later found out that her diaphragm was nicked. She had to have another operation for repairs. Your symptoms sound very similar

I went to the doctor with this same pain I thought it would only happen to people over the age 50 I'm in my 40's the pain was unbearable felt like i broke my rib cage doctor said it was the shingles and gave me medicine for it. not everyone develops the rashes that come with the shingles.I asked her why I had gotten the shingles if i was healthy was from my chronic stress and depression that trigger it.I believe her because ive been in allot of stress a yr later and again im having the pain.
