Hi, I too suffer from "smelly cheese face oil," but i also have a few health issues as well. All I wanted to say is this: None of us are Dr's. While it is great to have the advice you have to remember this, natural does NOT mean safe. Herbal can mix with medications and cause serious issue, as Milk Thistle did for me. My Mommy suggested I start on it to help detox my taxed liver....but when I asked my Dr about it as suggested she told me to STOP using it ASAP. So please be careful, just running out to try things. The funny (not haha but Holy c**p you should be scared) is none of the Drs some have seen had an answer.....
Look up sebaceous oil glands. You will find the issue there. Not sure where testosterone came in but, this was the issue I had. Go to a dermatologist or another Dr if you are messing with hormone level and what not, it could be a separate issue that just happen to be found at the time. Any way I wish all of you luck and happiness that have posted before me, and same to those that come after me. Is strange to say, but at least we aren't alone and have some help in our plight. Sorry it was such a major depressive "group" to belong to though. Stay Blessed!

Hi,
Its been over a year since your post, but I'm suffering from the same smell you talked about. Did the biotin and milk thistle cure yoir smell long term?

I, too, suffer from smelly-face-as well as overall bad body/scalp odor. It does seem to come and go at different times in my life and in different places. I have done it all it seems-supplements including biotin, zinc, magnesium, milk thistle, vinegar... washes anx soaps of all kinds-charcoal, sulfur, dial, hibiclens... I work out 4-6 days a week , I drink lots of water, eat fairly well, go to the sauna, I have taken oral antifungsls and a course of antibiotics...Mostly, I have learned to just deal with being kind of stinky and accept it. If someone mentions it-and they do-I just agree with them. Yep-sorry-I know I'm stinky, I can't help it. Move on. What I have noticed makes my face smell worse is fried foods esp french fries, chicken nuggets, etc.. Also, what sometimes helps is not using anything to wash my face except water. I either get a wash rag and run hot water over it, squeeze it and wipe my face or I get a wet washcloth and microwave fof 30 seconds and wipe my face. It actually helps!! I think sometimes we overwash and screw up the acid mantle of our face. Try it! Hope it helps!!

I use the yellow Listerine on my face as a toner after the shower, and spray it under my underarms to decrease the amount of bacteria in my pores and then pat myself dry with a towel. It sounds weird, but it has helped a lot.

Diagnosed Fatty Liver , was suspecting cirrhosis. Since this whole liver thing started the crease above mychin, the folds on the sides of my nose , and behind my ears have been excreting the most horrible stinky oil that probably does smell like bad cheese. Ive spent hundreds on cleaners and nothing worked. At best Id get 20mins of oil free time after a shower and face scrubs.

Today I received my milk thistle fluid from natures answer. I took a liberal dose according to the bottle (man this stuff tastes like chit but i dont care) . 4 hours later my liver stopped hurting, and my face began pumping oil probably more than usual , but get this after 4 hours only and the first dose the white c**p coming out of my skin , while it doesn't smell good is NOT the putrid mess it has been for the past decade. This stuff REALLY works! If you are tired of being embarrassed try this , I have a feeling it will change your life.

sounds dramatic , but no joke. I cant wait to see what happens in 2 weeks. This is amazing. Thanks everyone.

If you don't mind me asking how many milligrams are you taking for each dose?

Trimethylaminuria is a disorder in which the body is unable to break down trimethylamine, a chemical compound that has a pungent odor. Trimethylamine has been described as smelling like rotting fish, rotting eggs, garbage, or urine. As this compound builds up in the body, it causes affected people to give off a strong odor in their sweat, urine, and breath. The intensity of the odor may vary over time. The odor can interfere with many aspects of daily life, affecting a person's relationships, social life, and career. Some people with trimethylaminuria experience depression and social isolation as a result of this condition.

Variants (also known as mutations) in the FMO3 gene cause trimethylaminuria. This gene provides instructions for making an enzyme that breaks down nitrogen-containing compounds from the diet, including trimethylamine. This compound is produced by bacteria in the intestine during the digestion of eggs, liver, legumes (such as soybeans and peas), certain kinds of fish, and other foods. Normally, the FMO3 enzyme converts strong-smelling trimethylamine into another molecule that has no odor. If the enzyme is missing or its activity is reduced because of a variant in the FMO3 gene, trimethylamine is not processed properly and can build up in the body. As excess trimethylamine is released in a person's sweat, urine, and breath, it causes the odor characteristic of trimethylaminuria. Researchers believe that stress and diet also play a role in triggering symptoms.

Although FMO3 gene variants account for most cases of trimethylaminuria, the condition can also be caused by other factors. The strong body odor may result from an excess of certain chemical compounds in the diet or from an abnormal increase in bacteria that produce trimethylamine in the digestive system. A few cases of the disorder have been identified in adults with liver or kidney disease. Temporary symptoms of this condition have been reported in a small number of premature infants and in some healthy women at the start of menstruation.

Use Chlorhexedine. Its a miracle.
My husband has a very oily face and scalp. He is bald also. He sweats alot in his face and head and it smells horrible. Like rancid cheese. I can’t even kiss him as I want to puke.
I had him start using Hibiclens/Chlorehexedine to wash his face and scalp and it resolved the problem. It is an anti-bacterial that is used to clean the skin before a surgery. You can buy it at any pharmacy like CVS or Rite Aid or on Amazon.
So it clearly is bacteria causing the rancid odor. He had been using anti-fungals and they did nothing.
I can finally get near my husband without wanting to puke.

I think n-acetylcysteine fixed this for me. have had this symptom for about a year. I tried the milk thistle on an empty stomach daily for ~1.5 months and it did not alleviate the symptom so I stopped taking it.

I started taking a combination of supplements for other reasons (anxiety and sleep issues) about a month and a half ago, but after I added n-acetylcysteine to my supplement regimen about 1.5 weeks ago, this symptom of the weird cheeselike odor went away within a few days. for me the symptom was only obvious if I rubbed next to my nose or above my chin and then smelled. it was very persistent and nothing else I tried affected it.

the other supplements I'm taking are L-theanine, inositol, magnesium lysinate-glycinate (at bedtime), vitamin B complex, alpha-lipoic acid. they have helped tremendously for a host of symptoms which I am choosing to simplify under the terms "anxiety and sleep." especially the l-theanine and magnesium lysinate-glycinate. my guess is that these are not relevant in addressing the symptom we are discussing but I cannot be certain.

anyway, I take a total of 1800mg n-acetylcysteine daily, in three doses of 600mg each. taken on an empty stomach. one in the morning and I skip breakfast, another midday maybe an hour or two before lunch or dinner, then one before bed.

when I first noticed this symptom last summer I had been doing multiple 15-20 minute sauna sessions and cold showers daily for the year previous so I was shocked to consider that it could be something topical because I thought the hot steam would eliminate fungus and bacteria or microorganisms. I could speculate further, but won't since this does not ultimately seem treatable with topicals. nonetheless, at the time I figured topical treatments seemed the simplest to attempt and assess, so I tried various antifungal and antibacterial facewashes and ointments (fenbendazole, metronidazole nystatin), as well as some harsh acne facewashes (benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid) and gentle facewash (hellobello baby bodywash) over the course of several months. like others who have posted here, this symptom persisted despite these attempts. I think it seems reasonable to assume it is something internal such as the liver or something else that I don't properly understand. I have done multi-day fasts, augmented my diet from simple and vegetarian to plenty of meat and dairy. nothing seemed to alter this symptom.

i would like to add that I felt extremely hesitant to try the n-acetylcysteine, partly because of how it is touted as practically a cure-all. additionally, the strange pseudo-ban and unban by the fda seemed so strange to me and made my imagination do some funny stuff lol. I bought mine a year ago and hesitated to try it until now so I don't blame others if they have similar reservations. all depends on where we're at on our path I guess. if anyone wants more info on my present supplement routine I can elaborate further but it's nothing complicated.

anyway good luck to you, brothers and sisters. try to be patient and keep a clear head. nature never hurries and yet everything is accomplished.
