I have been on the same contraceptive pill for 7 years now (Minulet) and have often had light spotting mid-cycle which my doctor said I was not to worry about. I have also had regular cervical smear tests every year since starting the pill (when I was 19) and have never had an abnormal result. Recently having moved to the UK I started taking Minulet from the pharmacy here and have had an increase in mid-cycle spotting - about a week ago I experienced this vaginal spotting after a bowel movement. Worried, I went to have a smear test (results will only be available in 4 weeks) and saw a doctor who took a look internally and said everything looked normal and the cervix looked normal. She has told me to stop taking the Minulet once my pack is finished and to see her again once my smear results are through - any ideas on whether this is a hormonal thing that could be fixed by a new pill? I am so worried about this.
It could be the prolonged usage of the same contraceptive. When I started using the pill I was advised that the pill would need to be changed every 3 years for effectivness.
