Johns Hopkins scientists conducted a hospital study in which they involved 100 oropharyngeal cancer sufferers and 200 controls to study the risks of this terrible disease. Their report suggests that oral sex could have a higher risk of throat cancer than smoking and drinking.

Having been with just six or more partners significantly increases the danger of throat cancer. The increased risk of throat cancer linked to being with multiple partners is due to the bigger chances of becoming infected with human papillomavirus (HPV) implicated in various kinds of cancer.

The study researchers feel that the risks associated with alcohol and tobacco was insignificant in comparison to having multiple partners. This certainly doesn’t mean that alcohol and cigarettes are safe. Consumption of booze and cigarettes still causes liver failure and lung cancer.

Certain circumstances suggest that the finding may not be true but more research on the topic will certainly provide more information.
