Hi I am 34 year old female who is about 80lbs overweight. I really want to start runnng and I am hoping there are other people on here who were overweight also and ran to loose weight. I need some encouragement that it can be done.
I used to be in pretty good shape until my back injury. This time last year I had back surgery and have been pretty much inactive since then. I know from looking on other people responses that most would probably tell me to start going to the gym or use a treadmill instead, but I really want to run. I don't know why, but I just got it in my head and I can't get it out. I guess it's just that some of the movies i have been watching lately show people running and whenever I talk to aquaintances they always talk about how much they enjoy running and they look like they really enjoy running. I just want to run!

It's really really great that you decided to get into running :)
And I can say that it's maybe the best way to lose weight. Running burns a lot of calories.
Maybe the first thing you should do - visit your doctor. As you said, you got surgery. And you have to be 100% sure that nothing bad can happen. I don't want you to do surgery once more. You should tell your doctor that you want to start running.
Maybe you should start from walking, just to make your legs stronger and just after 2-4 week of walking start running.
I think that running in forests (because the ground is softer) would be the best for you because of your back.
And yes, running is really great. I love it. It makes me feel much better everytime :) You are going to love it too :)

Yea I probably will try walking first then. For some reason I just want to all out run! I went to the beach in September, and me and my 4 year old son was running on the beach. It was great, but I only did it that one time, and I was barefoot.
I want to run at this graveyard, actually it's a memorial park. I never see anyone out there, and I asked my husband if he thought it would be okay. He said he used to know two ladies that walked there everyday. I wouldn't run or walk if there was a funeral going on, but I wonder if anyone else on here jogs in a graveyard, if so, is there any policies I need to know about? I don't see any signs up about not running.

I have never heard that there's a park or forest where is forbidden to run :)
No worries ;) It's great that you have the park near to you ;)
There are not a lot of people running in my city :) I see just few people running :) But mostly it's teenagers training for races and so on. Not very much older people and especially women are running. It's not good. I don't know, maybe they are too shy to run. But you have to be proud that you can run :) It's a very good feeling :)
Well, my trainer is 50 years old and he can run 30km every Saturday with me ;) And he is less tired than me :)
So keep running, Olivia :)

Google info on your knees, the more your overweight, the exponentially I have heard the knees take on a ton more than they can handle really. I guess though it is totally you and how you feel.

Yea I started walking last week and I walked really fast. I wanted to try running a little but there was some people out there and I was too embarassed LOL! I'm glad I didn't run though because I walked at a fast pace for 40 minutes and my left ankle is still hurting from it, but it feels better than it did because the day after it hurt to walk on it.
I had back surgery due to a pinched nerve in my back and the pain was down my left leg to my ankle. After the surgery my back and leg pain stopped but my left foot and ankle still is a little numb. I'm thinking I walk on my left foot wrong due to the numbness and that is what's causing my foot pain when I walk. Of course I was pretty much inactive untill I started walking so I'm hoping I can just walk through the pain.
