If you are having phantom pain after having one ovary removed like me, try birth control pills. I had my left ovary removed 5 years ago after my cyst was cancerous. I have pain there the week before ovulation every month. it stops after my other ovary ovulates. I think it aches because it's not there and it can't ovulate, so your brain sends pain signals to the area. I am trying birth control pills, because you don't ovulate at all on those. So far it seems to be helping. It's good to know there are others with the same problem. give it a try.

Hi I had 2 surgerys this year. The first one was an investigation and i had keyhole, then a couple of months later i had to had open surgey. had a large demroid cyst on my right ovary, they were able to remove it and preserve as much tissue on my ovary as possible. It is now 14 weeks after and i am getting a pain on my right side that i didn't really experience before. I 'm worried that my ovary may have an infection???

Since my operation i have had at least 3 infections! I left the hospital with a UTI [from the cathitor] the antibotics did not work and i got a kidney and bladder infection. I have a lump on my left side above my scar which has a wound infection.... now its ment to be filled with blood that my body will absorb over time.

As for the numbness i can not feel along my whole bikini line where my scar is, its werid i can scratch along and i can feel a little pressure but not my nail??? I understand this is from the nerve damage and i'll be lucky to get any feeling back!

Back to my pain on my right side, is it an ovary infection, phaton pain or my body healing?? Dont really want to go back to doctors again so soon after.

I'm 20 years old too. About a week and half ago I had a Huge cyst removed from my right ovaries. The cyst was aproximately 30 cm, and because of that I lost my right ovary. But I'm doing fine now, the pain is mostly gone. I was also concern about the numbness and that's why I'm here today. From reading the past post, I'm a little sad that this numbness is not going away for awhile. But I guess it's better then the pain.

I am now twenty and had a cyst on my right ovary removed when I was nineteen, iys been about 7 months since my surgery and I am experiencing pain on the right side still, I don't feel as if this is normal...I am thinking of going to the Dr. to have him give me an ultrasound; to ensure another cyst has not grown. What do you all suggest?...I'm scared to go because I really don't want to find out I have another cyst...

I had a dermoid cyst along w/ my right ovary removed this past Friday. I'm 18 years old (will be 19 in 8 days....great b-day gift right lol) I'm experiencing some pain in my right side when walking but it goes away as I walk...so I guess that's good right? I experienced no pain w/ my dermoid cyst and it was HUGE!!!! o.O The only reason it was found was because my mother had "that feeling" that something wasn't right w/ my body because I hadn't had a cycle in almost 9 months but I wasn't pregnant. After running a bunch of tests, they found the dermoid cyst and removed it...Also, I noticed a dark blood colored spot in my pelvic area...is that normal? It's not sore at all. I get my staples out on Wednesday and I'll be sure to mention it to my doctor.

This past March, I was rushed to the hospital with back/abdominal pains. Twelve emergency room hours later, I was told I had a cyst on my ovary that had to be removed. I was 21. During the surgery, the doctors found that I had not one but two cysts, one on each ovary. The one on the right was only 4cm and was removed, but the left had an 8cm cyst that had twisted the fallopian tube to twist, essentially killing the ovary. Part of the tube and the ovary had to be removed.
It's been over nine months since the surgery and I still get pains in and around the site (the area I've named Oswald so it's easier to complain about when it hurts). The pains differ between short yet sharp stabs and a dull lasting ache, but never lasts more than an hour at a time. My doctor has explained that since it was major surgery in the abdominal area, it could take up to a year to fully recover, meaning though I feel fine 85% of the time, lifting cars for sport is not the best idea.
For me, the best thing to do is take an over-the-counter pain medication (ibuprofen works miracles) and rest when you feel the strain. As for the rest of the time, you have to be careful and realize that it's not as easy as you'd like it too be. Trust me, I know. But it is nice to know that I'm not alone, since the surgery I have felt like I was.

I had a 5cm Dermoid cyst removed from my left ovary 2 weeks ago. The Dr. completely took my ovary out of my body, took the Dermoid cyst off and then put it back in. I know they cut through the muscle and nerves but I have this weird numb/burning sensation on my inner thigh. I have numbness all around the incision too. I am hoping it goes away because it is a large part of my body that is numb, but from reading some of these posts I'm thinking it will be there forever. The recovering is so difficult, but each day you will see improvement and notice you can do more and more. I go to the doctor for my checkup tomorrow. Hopefully all is well!

Um, Hi I am 14, close to 15, and I had a cyst on my right tube, and it was twisting it, and um, there was a smaller one connected to the bigger one, my doctor told me that it was the size of a tomato. they took it out, but then I found out later that.. I was only born with one set. One tube, one Ovary. I've been having numbness on my right upper leg. I'm not sure why. But.. It tingles, and stings sometimes. I have to go back to the doctor soon, but im not sure what to do.. I'm really scared. .Is this also normal?? :( Please send me an email telling me please?

I was diagnosed with a cyst on December 2nd. After an ultrasound I found out that it's 11x9cm. I go in tomorrow to see what kind it is but the doc thinks it's a dermoid or hemerrogic. I'm scared and confused. He also mentioned an ovary may need to be removed...looks like it's the left.

I would love to know if this is possible through laproscopic surgery at that size , and can my ovary be saved?

Any feedback would be much appreciated!

I am also so happy to know that I'm not the only one with pain after getting an ovarian cyst removed. However, I wanted to caution all of you! I went to the ER in severe pain and I knew it was a cyst. I've done my own research and figured I had cyst for years but the pain always went away so I never went to the doctor. However, this last July, it was on my right side that the pain was so severe I couldn't stand it anymore. So, I went to the ER and they did confirm that I had a 10 cm cyst on my right ovary. They said it needed to removed so I had laproscopic surgery a month later. However, what they found was shocking. They did in fact find the cyst on my right ovary, along with a 19 cm cyst on my left ovary that had 6-8 liters of fluid in it. You would think that would be enough. Unfortunately, on that cyst, they found a tumor. I was sent to a specialist who confirmed it as cancer and I had an exploratory laparotomy surgery last October. They found 6 other areas where the cancer had spread. I'm 23 years old with Stage 3 ovarian cancer. I had no symptoms other then the pelvic pain. I just want to inform all of you to get tested. I'm lucky however, in which my cancer is a slow growing cancer and my blood test haven't shown the need for chemotherapy. My oncologist said that I probably will never be in remission because of the type of cancer it is and that the only way to remove the tumors is with surgery. They removed my left ovary in the first surgery and was able to keep my right ovary and uterus with the second surgery. However, lucky me....I have another cyst already growing on my ovary.

I don't want to scare anyone but PLEASE keep things in check and even if the pain goes away, get checked out by your doctor! Don't wait until years later like I did before it gets too serious!

LoRider: It is very possible to get that size of a cyst out laproscopically, because they took one 2xs as big out of me. They did have to make the incision by my belly button a little bigger to get everything out but I was back to work a few days later. However, I did loose my ovary because they couldn't tell where the cyst ended and the ovary began. Hopefully that gives you some peace of mind!

hi everyone. wow! so many people experiencing the same thing!
I am 19 years old and I had an laparoscopic surgery to remove my cyst on my right ovary on 20 August 2010. It was the size of a new born baby's head. It has been 7 months since my surgery and every month, two weeks before my period, I get the same pains. Now I experience it randomly and after my period too. It's like the pain has become more and more frequent. does anyone know whether this is normal? should i be worried that its back? please help!
