I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS DOCTORS OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS THOUGH NONE OF THEM COULD FIGURE OUT WHAT I HAD IN REGARDS TO MY SYMPTOMS. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THE PAIN IS COMING FROM A SWOLLEN EPIDITIMUS, AND THAT CAFFIENE AND ALCOHOL WERE THE CAUSES. I STOPPED BOTH OF THOSE FOR A MONTH AND I STILL HAVE PAIN IN MY LOWER ABDOMINAL AND RIGHT TESTICLE. WHEN I PERFORM MY OWN EXAM (FEELING THE TESTICLE FOR BUMPS OR ANYTHING THAT FEELS OUT OF THE ORDINARY) I FIND A SPOT WHERE THE PAIN SHOOTS TO MY HIP AND THEN RIGHT BACK TO THE TESTICLE. DURING MY LAST VISIT, EVEN THOUGH MY DOCTOR (UROLOGIST) SAID MY EPIDITIMUS WAS NOT SWOLLEN, IT WAS STILL PAINFUL. I HAVE FELT THIS FEELING OF THE PAIN GOING BACK AND FOURTH TO MY HIP BEFORE, BUT NEVER TO THE TOUCH. IT HAS ALSO SHOT THOUGH AND AROUND MY HIPS ENDING SOMEWHERE IN MY LOWER BACK. THE PAIN IN MY LOWER ABDOMMEN IS CHRONIC, AND CAN SHOOT HIGHER INTO THE ABS AT TIMES. THE PAIN CAN ALSO BE IN THE TESTICLE (EVEN MORE CHRONIC) AND IN THE HIP AND BUTTOCK (THOUGH THE LATTER IS LESS COMMON). I'M REALLY GROWING TIRED OF THE PAIN AS NOTHING TAKES IT AWAY. I HAD TESTICLE TRAUMA EARLIER IN THE YEAR AND IT WAS ABOUT THAT TIME THAT I STARTED NOTICING THE PAIN IN MY TESTICLE. MY UROLOGIST SAYS IT JUST SO HAPPENED TO BE A COINSIDENCE THAT IT STARTED HURTING AT THAT TIME AS HE FEELS THIS IS ALL RELATED TO CAFFIENE AND ALCOHOL - SAYS SEVERAL MILLION MALES HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I CAN'T SEE WHY PEOPLE WOULD PUT UP WITH THIS PAIN IF THAT WAS TRULY THE CASE. I MEAN, ONE GLASS OF WINE SHOULDN'T LEAVE YOUR LOWER ABDOMMEN ON FIRE AND YOUR TESTICLE FEELING LIKE IT'S STUCK IN A VICE. THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST PAIN I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. I HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TRYING GET SOME RELIEF BUT NO ONE HAS THE ANSWER. IT'S QUITE POSSIBLE THAT IT COULD BE RELATED TO ALCOHOL AND CAFFIENE BUT IT CAME ON SO SUDDEN, I MEAN LIKE OVER NIGHT. AND I REALLY THINK MAYBE THE TRAUMA MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT. I WILL TAKE ANY SUGGESTIONS AT THIS POINT. CONFUSED. FRUSTRATED. IN PAIN.
I never reply to anything. But I had this as well. look up illiogunial nerve neuropathy. My team of doctors are good but it took a bit to identify it. I can appreciate your pain and frustration. Alos had to have my gallbladder out and I am praying and hioping for less pain..just had surgery so I am not sure how much it helped yet..best of luck to you.
I have been experiencing these same symptoms for about 6 months now. Swollen testicles (left mostly for me), and a shooting pain on a regular basis from by testicles to my abdommen. It was worse with caffeine and alcohol, but at least in my case I believe that it is related to a buldging disc. I have a very straight spine, and have had problems elsewhere (GERD, Sciatica, Cervical Rediculopathy). Discovered that my acid reflux was related to herniated discs in my cervical spine. I was able to correct this with Chiropractic adjustments and Cervical traction that I performed morning and night at home. After a few months, symptoms of GERD disappeared. I don't know why I didn't assume a similar reason for my current condition, but with a little research, including posts on this site, I've believe I've been able to diagnose my problem. Strange how a pinched nerve in the spine manifests itself with pain so far removed. Most Doctors don't think to look to the spine, and I just don't know why. We are not meant to sit in chairs for several hours a day, but so many of us do in our cars and at work. It's very bad for the spine. I diagnosed my GERD problem as being related to the spine by using a simple ice pack. Just by placing this on my upper back, my acid reflux immediately went away. Wearing a weight lifting belt today, my testicular pain diminished dramatically. Will be trying an ice pack on my lower back to see if this causes the pain in my testicles to subside as well. I was having regular Chiropractic visits with a Biophysics Chiropractor to put the proper curve back into my spine, but stopped treatment a year ago, and had my testicular pain come on 6 months ago. It started when I lunged to get out of the back seat of a car. Probably did a lot of the damage to the disc at that very moment, and then the symptoms were off and on after that, but recently almost constant. I'll also be trying my inversion table to relieve the pressure on my lower back. I cured my own Sciatica several years back by hanging up-side-down for 3-5 minutes per night just before going to bed. I believe that stretching the tendons and ligaments connected to the vertebrae just before bed really helps to increase the extent of rehydration of the discs overnight. Note that both caffeine and alcohol work to dehydrate the discs, so if these create a problem for you, the spine is a very likely culprit. Stretching, Chiropractic visits, lots of hydration, lower back support, regular icing, should all help with these symptoms. If they don't, seek medical attention immediately.

I am in the same state as you. Lost my right 10 years ago, followed by the same therapy (radiology). Curerently going through therapy with antibiotics( 2nd run) for epididimits, though not sure if it's going to help. Urologists seem to be careless (live in Canada). Let's keep in touch for tips.

Hi.. I am writing on behalf of my 3 year old who seems to show many of symptoms cited on this discussion forum.. the doctors have told us it is an epididymitis but this occurs every month at the moment. The symptoms always appear to be the same - he wakes (at night) with a searing pain in the hip/lower back/kidneys to such an extent that he vomits. The pain then dissipates and within 36 hours he has a swollen right testicle... so far we have treated this using a 10 day program antibiotics but I would be nice to know the route cause and correct it to avoid his pain and the other complications ... to my knowledge his consumption of alcohol and caffeine are zero so I hope this isn't the only thing that we need to eliminate in order to solve the problem .

Do you have genital Herpes?
This is a disease that attacks the nervous system and could be causing this type of pain.

Glad to see I am not alone. I have been having this issue for a month now. I recently was treated for epididymitis and it briefly went away. However I got locked in a room and had to rip a door off its hinges to get out because the doorknob broke and I had immediate back pain. Since then the testicle pain has come back and its in the right hip pretty good. Worst part about the testicle pain is it feels like I am constantly getting a gentle flick. its nauseating. Going to the doc friday. This page gives me hope that maybe its just an easy to fix back issue. I never would have thought of the back being the cause.

Assuming epididymitis "is" the correct diagnosis. Heavy weight lifting could cause epididymitis due to reflux of sterile urine down the wrong way, to the epididymum. Try not to lift heavy weights, or avoid or use the law of the lever to work for you. Don't lift items if you can waddle them along the ground slowly. Antibiotics in that case won't have any effect - only epididymitis caused by bacteria.
The recent inflammation of your epididymitis may not have settled properly and possibly vulnerable to physical activity which has aggravated the area.
Ultrasound can often reveal epididymitis (especially Doppler ultrasound which looks at the blood flow in the scrotum and testicles). But it is probably cheaper for a doctor to go on history and symptoms and chose an antibiotic route. If the problem didn't go away after AB's, then they would investigate further perhaps.
For acute epididymitis, scrotal support and use of ice packs can help but you must be careful not to apply ice direct. Use it in bag and apply a towel over the scrotum first, then the ice pack. Only leave on for a short time, short enough to avoid local freezing of the skin or you risk frost bite. Try not to do it in bed when tired or you may fall asleep with the ice left in place. Sometimes a cold water soaked towel can be helpful and there would be no risk of frost bite.
Some say a warm bath is helpful for the pain, but some literature suggests avoiding hot baths because it can damage the tubules in the testes, which can cause sperm blockage and risk of infertility.
I hope you are feeling better.

I suffered a compound fracture to my left leg 30 years ago (in the UK in a sporting accident). Have had severe back pain in the centre of back, on an off since, but more latterly. I had scans etc and no answers. Recently developed severe left hip joint pain with pain going into the left testicle. Tonight, I went to an osteopath under recommendation, (in Spain, where I now live) told hm about all the problems in the back, hip and foot and also told him that I get strange testicular pain. He said it wasn't strange at all and everything is eminating from my spine being slightly out of alignment as a result of my left leg being very slightly longer than the right. All because the left leg break had healed slightly longer due to the new bone growth around the fracture site (tib and fib). After some manipulation and some cracking in the back the hip pain is much less, although my back feels bruised ! Going back on Tuesday but I may need a shoe insert to correct the posture. Hope this all works and hope it helps others. Try an osteopath instead of a urologist. Referred pain can be difficult to diagnose but can really affect the quality of life.

I also live in the UK and again have like a sharp shooting / pinching pain in the right and left testicles, burning down the sides of my testicles and inside groin. I have had this on and off now for around 4 years and it comes and goes. I have been prescribed multiple courses of Cipro and just finished a course a few days ago.
I have had blood tests including blood count and PSA tests and all came back negative.
I have had multiple ultrasounds of the testicles and scrotum which revealed small "stones" however they don't think this on its own is enough to cause the reoccurring problem.
I have seen a urologist who has carried out a bladder scan and a physical examination. He then suggested i try amitriptyline, again i tried this for two weeks on low dose with no success.
At the moment im wondering if i either have hernia or trapped nerve.
I am back at my GP's this coming Tuesday but starting to lose hope a bit.
