Some of you may want to research the following:
Tietze Syndrome
Chostochondritis
At least, I hope that our problem is one of these.

It is shingles.....definitely
Bull feathers. Shingles is WAY different than what is being described by ANY and ALL of these peoples. I've had Shingles twice, and this definately is NOT Shingles.

I have the same issue (56 year old male) When you find out......let me know. The pain moves around emanating from the lower ribs. Both sharp and prolonged pain. Sometimes throbbing. Sitting on a stiff leather seat aggravates it. Let me know.

I know this is a very old post. If you are still there, did you find out what the problem was. I have exactly the same symptoms for the last 4 months and its driving me up the wall. I have had blood tests, scans etc and the only thing that the first scan picket up is the my liver is fatty and my spleen enlarged. The second scan one month later showed only that my spleen is enlarged but my liver nothing wrong with. Goin to my gynocologist on friday as this pressure on my right side is driving me insane. Hope you have sorted yourself out i know how it feels. God bless.

Hi Kristina. A few theories on my condition. I had a deep tissue message just prior to my pain. I also have Diabetes. My doctor says there is a nerve in the ares of my pain that may have been "hit" in just the wrong way. She said this nerve is affected by high blood sugar. The pain does come and go, It seems sitting on a hard leather seat aggravates the situation. Moving and standing makes it go away. Hope this helps. Any thoughts ??

my discomfort radiates around the exterior skin only and is located around my lower back stomach(belly button high) and sides (love handles)- its basically a circle the sensation i feel is a burning numbness that varies in intensity with no rhyme or reason- i do notice this that after sleeping i wake up with it more intense and as the day goes on it can actually subside- i sit in front of a computer all day almost every day have gained weight and i probably sit with the wrong posture -i tend to lean towards the ideas of correcting my bad habits in sitting and posture and massage could help me and a new ergo chair- i wrote this so you can compare what i do with what you do be honest with yourself do you sit a lot- please please if these are not your symtoms continue on with the doctors advice- maybe just put this idea along with it- i think it would do more good than you think- a last word remember my burning numbness is exterior only i have no internal pain or discomfort

(posting here because some people with some of these symptoms will end up here.)Hey guys I hope everyone with this issues sees this. You may have this to a lesser or more sever extant. I had pneumonia a little over a month ago and one day after not sleeping for days and days I woke up after taking what was not a smart amount of various medications to help me sleep and help my symptoms. Well, I slept but I woke up with the feeling I had been shot through and through from under my left rib cage and out the back. I feared that I damaged my liver and was so embarrassed I didn't go see anyone and lived in agony and off of left over pain killers for a good week or so. I couldn't lay on my front or back without it making it worse, when I ate right after each swallow it hurt really bad, I felt bloated right under my rib cage, and was easily out of breath. At times it felt like I was having a heart attack. I finally went in after being out of pain meds and the doc was really concerned. They did blood work and that was all find, so no worries about liver or gallbladder so she was concerned I had a pulmonary embolism but I had no other symptoms related to that. Still, she wanted a catscan to be sure but I wasn't about to pay for that. So I went home and did TONS of research. I came to the conclusion I had developed GERD. So I went and bought some over the counter 150 strength generic zantac to find out if that was my ailment. Sure enough after two days of taking it twice a day my symptoms pretty much went away. I stopped taking it to make sure I wasn't just better and it was a coincidence and yep after a day it came back. I called my Doc and she agreed (my thought is why didn't she realize this!?!?) So I started back up on a prescrip of same med and have been on it for the past week and pretty much prob free. If I forget to take my night dose I know because I start coughing which is another symptom because the acid is irritating your throat. I go take it and in about 30 min stop coughing. I hope this reaches and helps everyone scared to death by these symptoms like I was. It is a pretty cheap test to see if this is your issue without paying for all the other tests. HOWEVER! If you have a change in your stool like some people have said tarry looking or bloody GO TO THE DOCTOR because that is not GERD, that would likely be a peptic ulcer or something else similar which can be an emergency.

Hi everyone ,In regards to this post.I believe because Ive had this problem for years
It is very much a nerve problem. When I am under a lot of stress it happens. Does this happen to any one else.
Since no doctor That I seen or even anywhere can figure it out,if you go to a diagnostic doc one that solves
unexplained conditions I bet in one of your better hospitals like john Hopkins etc... Must have a specialist doc that just figure out
unknown illness.Me myself ,I'm not a doc but have been in medical field 12 years, and having same condition. Its got to be a nerve issue. I mean interior nerves. I think inflammation builds real high and stress will aggravate it.COURSE this is only my theory. But
since none of my other organs in that area damaged it makes sense.

Finally I have found you All who suffering the same problem as I am! 36 years, female. Like the person with the original post and James, I suffering with IT now for over a year!!! Started very sudden, massive pain all around my ribs, sides and back/shoulder blades. I was about to call ambulance. First pain was coming back in the evening, now it’s none stop. Same story, done over 13 different checks of my blood including 2 different types of cancer—NOTHING, all clear apart of low on vitamin D. Ultrasound—again all clear. Suffered from IBS, diarrhoea and constipation before. Apart of that I was under a lot of stress and depression before. Constantly tired badly even after a light job. Bad concentration. My eyes are very tired, red and irritated when I am at work 9am-6pm (maybe due to heating system). Do not fell refreshed after a long sleep. Dosing during the day easily. Also my back/sides skin is very sensitive to even light touch. My son gives me a hug and I feel like someone cut my back with a knife. Plus I am very sensitive to light, noise in the morning and smell/deodorant spray…cannot stand it. I believe it could be a Fibromyalgia but I still do not understand what is wrong with my chest/ribs/sides/back??? HELP!!!
