Best Answer: The muscles in your neck are tight and, because they go to the top of your head for it's movements, they are affected by the yawning when they are tight. You have to release the muscles in your neck to get rid of that pain and here's how to do that:
Neck
Put your hands alongside your head so your thumbs are on the front of the muscle under your ear and your fingers are on the back of the muscle behind your head. Squeeze your thumb and fingers together and hold. Relax your body. After 45 seconds, slowly lower your head as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your neck lowered for another 30 seconds.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

I have a similar pain. I had a craniotomy 4 years ago and then went through 2 months of brain radiation and felt fine after all of that (well, tired after the radiation, but it went away. 3 months ago the pain in the left side of my head started (that is the side the surgery was on), so assumed it had to do with the brain tumor area. My neurosurgeon had me do imaging to rule out blood flow to/from the brain, which was fine. When I just talked to his NP she said after they reviewed the imaging he mentioned it might be neuropathic pain. No idea what that even means. All I know is the left side of my face is even swollen and the pain runs down my neck (if I don't take Advil it sort of even hurts when I swallow). I have regular massages and have not been able to go face down since September. I tried it today and lasted about 30 seconds. Excruciating pain...like a million pounds is pressing on my ear/jaw/teeth.
Did anyone get any help with this?

Are you still experiencing this pain? It sounds very similar to what is happening to me, which started about a month ago. It doesn't hurt through the night, but the longer I'm awake the worse it gets. I've had an MRI that came back fine, but it was done at 7:00 am, when I wasn't experiencing any pain. I wonder if they did it later in the day if it would have made a difference. I'm about to go crazy. Dr said nothing serious, see me in six months. I also had bloodwork that came back ok. Any information would be appreciated.

Sounds like an auto immune disorder I contracted bacterial psoriasis from strep throat, and the long ongoing pain and sensitivity may be fibromyalgia. Talk to your doctor.
