Sore Throat/Ear on left side only

I am a 20 year old feamale and for the past week I have had sever pain in the back of my throat as well as in my ear. This pain is only on the left side though, I have taken advil and other types of pain killers but none of it works. I cant sleep at night now because the pain keeps me up. I have tried gargeling salt water but it feels as if my tongue is protecting the exact area that hurts in turn not allowing the salt water to do its job at the spot of the most pain. It has become extremly hard to drink water let alone eat, which is causing me to lose my appetite. The left side of my neck is swollen as well now, right under my jaw.
