Can a alergic reation to certain meds cause the Parotid  glands tto swell? Mine have been so swollen at times that it closes my ear canal.  Four trips to a ear Dr. and all he can do now is shrug .

Yes!  I started on 5% Ritalin then increased to 10% after two weeks.  I had already been taking Ametriptiline at night and Welbutrinein around noon.  The first two weeks on Ritalin were fine, but after the increase I devleped monstrous, acne lesions with red rings around them. This was alarming as I've always had clear skin.  I developed swollen eyes and had a leasion on my left eyelid.  The entire, left side of my forehead was angry, red and swollen. I couldn't raise my eyebrows.

Then my left Parotid gland swelled to the size of a large, walnut. I wasn't even aware that I had a gland there.  It was sensitive to touch and the same with the area behind my ear.  I hid away and stuck it out for another week.  After a week the gland started shrinking, ever so slowly.  It is still minimally swollen and slightly, sensitive.  I still suffer the acne lesions.  It's been 2 weeks since they appeared.  They sometimes itch, but I leave them alone, except for a hot and/or cold wash rag press. It helps.  When the leasions first appeared around my jaw/chin area, 3 or 4 on each side, they were dryer then the leasions on my forehead. and I obbsessively started picking at them.  I ended up buying scar remover ointment because it came to that.  The leasions on my forehead I leave alone because they are angry, red, flakey and hurts to touch them. The swelling is slowly, dissipaiting.  I have cut back down to 5% until my next doctor appointment to see if there is a 'plan B.'
