I had a lingering cough as well after pneumonia for months. I was put on many rounds of antibiotics and nothing helped. I had a repeat chest x-ray that came back normal. The thing that FINALLY cured me was the doctor put me on steroids for 6 days (21 pills, the dose was 4 something (mg? mcg??)). Try this if nothing else works. I didn't think it would work for me, but it actually solved my problem!

I've got identical symptoms, I am only 22 and this has been going on for about 2 1/2 years now. X-Ray showed nothing, blood test, nothing, and stomach test showed no ulcers. It is really bs, I don't know what I ate, but I don't deserve this terrible damn cough. This seems like an epidemic on a small scale, its really not good. I feel weak and I can't go to the gym as much as I want because the cough gets in the way.

Symptoms get worse from: eating a lot of food, and drinking coffee.

I am cross-posting this from another thread. It may be relevant to someone. *** Hi all. I know this is an old thread but I had read it a couple of months ago after finding it with a Google search for the symptoms I had. The reason I am posting now is because I got lucky and found a doctor that finally figured out my problem. I came to realize that practically no pulmonologists or respiratory professionals ever diagnose this properly due to a systemic, glaring omission in training. I am not saying that anyone posting in this thread has what I had, buy my guess is that some might. It turned out that I was suffering from black mold poisoning. I had moved to a different home about the same time all of this started but I never put two and two together. After a change in environment to new housing immediately, and direct detoxification over many months, I am symptom free. I suggest a simple home mold testing is in order if you have any suspicions there is mold in your environment. Mold exposure is serious stuff. The respiratory issues will turn into lung cancer, and anyone with a cardiac history will end up with an enlarged heart. Mold is not only serious, but it will eventually kill you if your toxicity levels are high. Hope this may help someone. Feel free to post any questions and I will be happy to answer if can. Rob

I too have had a chesty cough for going on 11 months now. I suffered pneumonia about 6 years ago , and every year around that time I got a cough or cold . This last cough is the worst lasting for this Long. I've had chest X-ray , three lots of anti biotics , and now I'm on ventolin and some symbicort inhaler three times a day. I did a spirometer test and showed I get better lung capacity when I use ventolin but I really don't think it's asthma. I'm generally a healthy person , don't smoke , or drink heavy. I cough up phlegm every day. And it's super annoying!!! My back hurts a bit in the left side between my spine and shoulder blade but can't work out if its muscle or lung pain . Very much over this! Going to start taking Manuka honey and see a naturopath I can't think of anything else!!!

your symtoms remind me of my sister who had a diaphramic hernia where her diaphram ripped sending her stomach, spleen, and small intestines into her left chest and collapsing her left lung. The CT was of the Thorax. did they do a CT of
the lungs and upper abdomen. Most people do not know they have this until they
die from something else and an autopsy is done.

My Mum had a chesty cough which lasted for a couple of months.  The doctor gave her 2 lot of antibiotics but they didn't seem to clear it, and she was reluctant to give her any more because they obviously can do more harm than good. The doctor sent her for a chest x-ray, which was clear and  they told her that it is possibly an allergic reaction so they put her an antihistamines which didn't help!

Then a few weeks after that she saw an offer on Groupon for the Salt Cave and it said that it helped with respiratory conditions. So as it was only £10 she figured she had nothing to lose After 2 sessions her cough was gone! without  the need for any more nasty antibiotics or antihistamines.

Sometimes nature really does have the answers :)

Hi I am 38 and also have had what everyone here is describing. I had mild pneumonia in 2007 and now every year I seem to get flu like syptoms which turn into a chest infection every time. Initially the antibiotics cured the infection but left me with an unproductive cough. I smoke about 4-5 per day so attributed it to being a smoker at first. However, I am now wondering if there is something regarding emotional health because although I don't feel depressed I have had a significant amount of emotional turbulance in the last few years. I started a new job (health worker) in a new area and within weeks got an infection which left me with post viral / ME type symptoms where I could hardly get out of bed or walk without feeling exhausted. This lasted 7 weeks. I went back to work in the area I trained wasn't ill at all. I have moved jobs again to a new geographical area and it has happened again... I have been there only 4 weeks and have had a course of amoxicillin which seemed to work but it returned after a week even worse. I have been prescribed prednisolone steroids and clarythromycin and am off work :( . Like everyone else has described I have never had a temp but just keep producing a mixture of white and yellow sputum. I was x-rayed following the 7 weeks episode and it came back clear and bloods were all ok. I am alsobaffled!

I have the same thing. I don't know what to do. My husband thought a horn blew somewhere when I coughed. My doctor asked if it sounded like a bark. I think it does. It started in October of 2013 with shortness of breath. Now I am like one of those "Victorian Ladies" dying of consumption. It's like I've had a cold in my lungs for almost a year. I sound like I'm ninety-nine years old when I speak now. My voice is all raspy and weak. I hope I don't have to live like this forever.

I researched this topic for my husband's persistent unexplained cough. I found several articles explaining a strong link between vtamin B12 deficiency and this symptom. We are vegetarian, and most sources of B12 are found in animal protein. So we are giving this supplement a try and I thought I would share it here in the hope that it can help some of you too. Additionally, an imbalance of digestive bacteria can hinder the absorption of B12 so we will also be taking a good probiotic. Here is an article where I found this information. Best of luck to all of you!
