Hi everyone, this is neff. I have been using my jock strap from time to time and it's worked for me almost every time, but on the days it doesn't I have tried Aleeve. I got the idea to take one Aleeve twice a week to help with muscle relaxation and it's helped 100% on the days I took it. I'm not sure this will help with you but it did for me and I've been using it for 2 weeks for a total of 4 pills taken.

Hey guys, this is Mike O. Please, please, please contact Eugene and send in your information to him. He has a questionaire that will help us to see if there is any commonality between us.

I have been suffering from this for around 15 years or so. I managed like you guys and it was just an annoyance and cause for fear I was going to hurt my penis somehow it would get so hard. I impregnated my wife three times in that period.

I will say this to you guys, my life became a living hell after getting a vasectomy because of this condition. DO NOT, get a vasectomy with this condition. The combination long lasting erections plus the scar tissue can cause excruciating pain. SRPE was an annoyance, add post vasectomy pain due to issues with scar tissue and long intense night time erections and it was like pure torutre. I got my vasectomy reversed, which cleaned out a lot of the scar tissue, and the pain, subsided quite a bit but I still have issues sitting and with pain that are pretty horrific.

This condition does not spontaneously go away. I am in year 16 or so.

One ray of hope is that I've noticed it gets much better if I am not working and sitting in a chair 8 hours a day. I believe mine is aggravated made worse by chair sitting.

Again, because of my vasectomy, this condition causes me a lot of pain. Do NOT get a vasectomy.

Take care,
Mike O

Hey, I am new to this thread but not new to this problem. I have noticed for several years that my sleep has been suffering especially after a few hours of sleep I will have a choppy rest of the night. I haven't seen a doctor about it, but not too long ago I realized the duration and strength of my nocturnal erections were unusual and perhaps the cause of my repeatedly waking up. That is when I found this thread.

I haven't seen a doctor about this (SRPE) yet (definitely going to get on that), so it could be something else (not sickle cell though). I have seen a doctor about sleep before and had a high respiratory disturbance index on a home sleep study so I am need to look into tests sleep disordered breathing some more (haven't yet because of recent move).

Just recently I had the idea to try sleeping in an arm chair through the night. I don't think I am used to sleeping more upright yet (from what I've read it is something you can get used to), so my sleep still hasn't been good; but as far as the unusually strong and long lasting erections, they seem gone. I still get erections in the night of course, but they are much more normal, not of the same sort or duration.

If I had to take a wild guess at where this problem comes from I would look at brain blood flow.

Has anyone else tried sleeping sitting up?

Neff here, I have tried sleeping on a lazy boi and it does help because I'm propped up. However I'm married so I'm not going to continue to voluntarily sleep on the couch. I try sometimes to sleep upright on my bed but that doesn't work because it usually causes Merck pain. I even tried a neck pillow. My doctor told me it's not sickle either but if sitting up while sleeping helps, how could it not be with some sort of blockage. If I sleep straight on my back it's an 100% chance I'm going to have an erection that will wake me up at night. I trade between a jock strap at night, Aleeve twice a week, side sleeping , and a stomach sleep. I track myself ping habits with my Fitbit but that's not all that scientific. Aleeve will help with muscle relaxation and this usually always helps but I only do it twice a week on average

I feel like sitting up could change something with blood pressure or blood flow throughout the whole body which could control this as well. I don't think it is necessarily blockage especially because the position that I sleep in a chair is hardly different from one in a bed; it is just an angle change.

Hey everybody, this is Dan. I have had this experience with unstoppable nocturnal erections for a couple of years. I also tried everything, from medical advice to various medicine.
Long story short, I was also using for a number of years Rogaine foam - which contains minoxidil, for hair loss. This prevents hair loss by maximizing blood flow in the scalp. After years of use, I have discontinued the product for a week, and after a couple of days the erections went back to normal.
So my advice, check what (if any) medicine you are taking, ask your doctor if it increases blood flow and if possible discontinue for several days to see if it improves your sleep.
Also another piece o information, I have had a bad experience with baclofen: it was helpful but it creates a strong addiction and severe withdrawal symptoms.

Hope it will helps!

I noticed mine started after taking finasteride. I developed a lot of prostate pain whicheck I believed was prostatitis and then just started getting painful erections when I would sleep. I should have stopped taking it rigjt then and there but did not.

Hello everyone,

This John answering the question about the size of the wedge pillow I'm using. I use a 15 inch wedge pillow which can be found on amazon for about $30.00. I don't sleep all the way inclined but about halfway up the pillow so a lower incline may work for some as well. It seems to make it "better" but I still get up about 2x a night on average. A new interesting correlation I'm finding is drinking carbonated beverages. As I increase my carbonated beverage intake, I get up more and have more intestinal gas. Something may be connected there as well. I had digestive changes around the same time this started as an FYI.

Anybody have any new developments? I desperately need some relief from this. Thinking about going to Johns Hopkins and seeing if the doctors there know anything. Reluctant to start that process again though as none of the 8 doctors I've seen knew what to do.

So, I tried for a bit sleeping in an arm chair, but it led to its own bad sleep. I tried sleeping on an inclined bed, but that didn't help at all. I think I have found something that helps though.

I had noticed that if I am sitting on my knees with my body over my legs (essentially a child's pose in yoga) that my erections would go away pretty quickly. It isn't comfortable for me to sleep this way though because my legs fall asleep, but I realized that all is needed is for one of my legs to be pulled up to my chest and my erections will be normal (meaning normal NPTs). So, I now sleep on my side with the lower leg pulled up to my chest.

Yes propecia was the trigger for me. When I stopped taking it for a while it would go, but stupidly I carried on with the drug. I've had this problem for 6 years now, seen many healthcare professionals with no success. I would like to have an overnight bladder function test as the problem starts after about 4 hours sleep. Unfortunately, they don't seem to carry out nocturnal tests.

Did anyone one this thread NOT take Propecia? I took it for years and it seems like a lot of you did as well. Please respond if you have never taken Propecia (finasteride).

I have never taken propecia. I did dabble with herbal erecrion pills recreationally including turned on goat weed. I wonder if that was my precursor. Does propecia and herbal erection drugs affect brain in same way?

Guys this is a big deal. I always thought there was a link to Propecia. There have been class action lawsuits against Merck of Post Finasteride syndrome. I believe this could be good fodder for a lawsuit. This condition has really wrecked my quality of life. It started right exactly when I went on Propecia. The poster named Eugene has surveys he has collected from many guys here. This board is kind of dumb. It's completely anonymous so you can't even check to see who has and has not taken propecia on this thread based on their handle.

I've never taken propecia, but I did dabble with viagra, cialis and levitra for sexual anxiety before the onset of mine. I used each only one or two times only to see which worked best for me, but stopped due to headaches.
