'What We Know' here. Without medication, I'll wake between 3-6 times a night.

PS. I was told I needed to re-affirm my membership here on Steadyhealth, however when I followed the link they provide, it says 'sorry 404 Error' (or something like that).
PPS. I've found that stuffing a pair of socks down my briefs, so as to keep my penis pointed firmly down works very well. For some reason the tight jockstrap only killed the erection and not the intense need to urinate. The double-sock solution has paid big sleeping dividends so far. But SRPE has proved it can overcome all attempts to block it, over time.

Maybe I did something wrong with the jock strap method, thanks for the thoughts and advice Eugene.

Do you guys tuck your penis into it so that it's pointing up, flat against your groin? or down, towards your feet? Mine was up last time.

I'm going to try socks with regular briefs tonight at first and point it down.

Oops, forgot to add my name. It's Rezz.

Also - have any of you tried melatonin? I'm thinking of giving that another go too.....

Rezz... I have tried pointing up, down, sideways, every which way. Same result each time. Lends new meaning to the saying "may the force be with you". It seems I, for one, get the best sleep with as much room to stretch freely as possible.

And, yes, I take melatonin. Like many others have found, although the standard "dose" is 2mg or 3mg, we find it better/more effective to take LESS. We break a 5mg tab into quarters, so are effectively only taking 1.25mg. More can be too exciting, oddly enough.

Hope this helps.

Please point us to published information regarding Belsomra preventing REM stabe sleep.

All I found was a critical Consumer Reports article regarding Belsomra saying it is expensive and that there are some important safety concerns with it.

Belsomra is a new sleeping pill so I do not think it should have big side affect (compare to other pill that we tried like clonanzepam) I asked my doctor to give it to me but he said it is only available in US, I am not a doctor but my wife is and she recommended to try it.

I'm the guy that recommended the jock strap. Y'all can call me neff. The jock strap has been working for me periodically but I actually stopped wearing it for a week and tried sleeping on my right shoulder so my heart is above my penis. From my Fitbit sleep data for a week, I have cut my time awake and restless time down to less than 0 and 3. Before that I have always been 9-12 ( a horrible sleep. I also sleep with a small pillow under my festivals that props my penis forward ( also releases stress on my legs resting on each other.

This is neff. I haven't used any medication so far other than valerian hops but I rarely take it as much.I use to dreed going to sleep but now not at all. I'm not cured but I don't worry at all when I go to bed. I sleep on average 6 hours without waking up and sometimes 7 but I average 6 hrs and 16 min. my sex life is still normal but I don't last as long as I did before. My jock strap keeps everything propped up and sometimes I use it in the day like ref underwear and sometimes just when I sleep. The jock has grooves that can sometimes be uncomfortable but honestly u get use to it and when I don't want it I take it off and prop the testicels forward with a pillow and sleep left shoulder up.

Please send me your email address so I can send you my srpe questionnaire.

My address is _[removed]_

Note, if you go back a page or two you will see that I have permission from this site to give my email address to you.

We are trying to publish the answers to the questionnaire so that urologists and doctors become more aware of this apparently rare erectile disorder.

At least 6 people from this site have already filled out the questionnaire.

Thank you,
Eugene

Eugene here again.... Age 49, SRPE for about a year or slightly more.
For over three weeks I have been experimenting with the jock strap idea after someone, perhaps "neff" above, suggested it several pages back. At first I was using the jock in conjuction with the baclofen, now I have entirely gone off baclofen to use just the jock strap.

I am using the jock with a pair of socks tucked in it so that when I go to bed my flacid penis is pointed down and firmly held in place, but not uncomfortably so, against my groin by the pair of socks. You may have to experiement around with how the sock is positioned so as to compress the penis.

When I wake up with an SRPE erection, I record the time on a calendar next to my bed, which it would be cool if we all did for a month or so. I was taking 50 mg of baclofen at the start of the jock experiment but even with the baclofen I was waking up mostly two times a night. So, I was finding baclofen only partially helpful. When I tried a jock strap method, I found it eliminated the erections altogether for a day or two, and I was totally suprised by this because the jock method sounded funny to me when I first heard about it. So I stopped the baclofen altogether rather cold turkey, no withdrawal symptoms though.

For the past 19 days with jock method and no baclofen there have been 6 days of only having one SRPE erection, usually toward the morning hours! There have been 7 days with only two erections, usually toward the morning hours. 3 days with three SRPE erections, and 3 days with four or five SRPE erections.

As you can see, SRPE events per night seem to be variable. However, I seem to be doing as well or better using the jock method than when I was taking Baclofen. While I had just renewed my prescription to baclofen shortly before starting this experiment with the jock strap, and have about 90 tablets, I most likely will not take it again. But I may invest in another one or two jock straps or the jock underwear they sell.

Nope, this is not a pitch to sell jock straps!

Hi Eugene, Dizzy here.
I too had some early success with the jockstrap (and socks and Baclofen and Clonazepam) method, but over the last few weeks I've started waking more frequently again with a semi-hard-on and a nasty, painful urge to urinate. I feel like I'm back to square one.

The one thing I notice with using a jock-strap, or in fact any method that forces my penis 'down' (eg. socks stuffed down briefs) is that I can wake with an incredibly nasty head-ache and really heavy exhaustion. So that, while I still use these methods, it's become a bit of a concern to me. The headaches are really atrocious. As if I've been deprived of oxygen for long periods.

Dizzy again here.
This was an interesting response to Rezz's SRPE description on the 'med health org' website in 2014.

'the hard flaccid and pelvic muscle spasms are causes by a loose/ torn suspensory ligament. when ligaments become loose and unstable the brain sends signals to tighten the muscles in the area to support the ligament this is causeing the pelvic muscles to spasm and tighten causing the mild errection this can and probably will eventualy cause erectile dysfunction and many other problems repeat this to a urologist you will need surgery im sorry to say there is a surgery supported by studys of a British andrologist mr Mr David Ralph where they insert non maliable structures to resuport the suspensory ligament. it is a very safe and statisticly effective corrective surgey your urologist will likely not be much help but repeat what I have told you and he will be able to refer you to a specialist andrologist hope I helped.'
