I’m having that issue as well. I started noticing it when I was diagnosed with COVID. Strangely enough, my doctor also didn’t hear it when he was listening to my lungs. It sounds like it’s coming from my throat with how loud it is. It’s more noticeable when I lay down in any position but it’s quiet when I sit up. I was also hoping to find answers but it seems like it’s a mystery.

I'm 73 and this started about 2 months ago. Only while lying down. Have to clear my throat about twice an hour. Sounds just like everyone else reports....like milk on Rice Krispies. Hundreds of people reporting this online yet no one knows anything about the origin. Weird. I'll post anything I discover.

I’ve had it for 5+ years and still doing OK. The only doctor that had a clue said it sounded mechanical, that makes sense or it could be from sleep apnea.

It could be from GERD, I get this pop/fizzy sound in my throat when I lay down and I had an ulcer. My pcp put me on Omeprazole and it stopped after a day or two. It’s acid reflux.

I get this too. Annoying and scary because I think about pneumonia. Can’t tell if it’s more in my throat or lungs. My doctor said it could be acid reflux. She was quite dismissive about it. Of course it wasn’t happening when I was in her office and she listened to my breathing with a scope!

Yes, it is very fortunate they don’t hear anything in the lungs! It’s mechanical, so after 5 years with it, I can it say it’s only something to keep an eye on.

How do I get rid of this popping in my throat

Thank all of you for all of the information. I have been living with this now for over a year. Everything I have read previously said it had to be the Eustachian tube. I have been to 4 ENT’s had 4 scopes, sinus CT scan, regular doctor, GI doctor, Neurologist were all told and not one clue or guess. Sinus is all I was told by regular doctor. It causes great anxiety to breath and we have to breath! With every breath you are hoping no noise! It really feels like it is in my nose as I told the ENt’s. However, the last ENT asked me if I hear it when closing off my nose and I do. So, I started paying attention more and am thinking it is in my throat somewhere. I have been having bad neck pain also with rubbing on those two bones in the middle of the neck as well. I also have Chiari malformation with syringomyelia so wasn’t sure if any of that was causing it. I have recorded the noise throughout the year with my phone. It can be heard outside of my body. Lol! Funny thing is do not hear it during the day. In the later evening while sitting it will start. Or, of course as you all said, when laying down. If I turn on my right side, nothing! Back or left side it is there. The popping is so crazy at times it wakes me up several times in the night. But snoring doesn’t! I have wore headphones & listened to white noise to drown it out. I have tried sinus cleaning and all other sorts of things. For a while I swore that Ciprofloxan drops in my left ear calmed it down but the ENT’s said that is impossible that it could not pass through the membrane. Eye doctor says it can. Who knows. At this stage in time, I am thinking it is exactly what you are saying, the reflux with the mucus mix and of course I have hiatal hernia and Schatzki ring so all of that there together maybe…. I do know that one time last week I had peace while sleeping. Although the anxiety of anticipating the noise was there I didn’t have it for once. I think that day I ate at Longhorn a late lunch around 2 and then no more food that day. I am and have been on omeprazole but take it in the morning. After reading your comments, I decided to start taking one at night. I think it was somewhat better last night after doing that. Going to experiment with the omeprazole at night and not eating or drinking water as early on as possible.

You have already been checked for everything so you are good. You can sleep with a CPAP and never hear it again; I rarely hear it anymore, but it’s still there.

Thanks for the message. Currently going through this. Brought it up to my ent as it’s been going on for over a year off and on. Got better after sinus surgery. But has since came back here and there. It’s like little air bubbles popping in my throat. I can hear them popping and feel the bubble pop in my throat if that makes sense. Happens when I lay down or I’m sitting. Use to keep me awake. Going back to the ent for a recheck. I’m going to bring it up again
