Hi Denise, how did your doctor handle the skin tags or did it heal and shrunk on its own?
Thank you so much for your honesty and suggestions. It's nice to know others feel the same way. Hope you are fully recovered now and it was all worth it.!!
Thanks for the advice. I am close to 36 hours post op .
YOU answered many questions j. An encouraging manner
Thank you so much for writing this. I had my surgery just 12 hous ago and your post made me much less nervous for the days to come. So far, I have very little pain but I'm assuming I'm still numb from whatever they gave me in surgery. I'm hoping my recovery will be as you described and not like some of the horror stories I've been reading! Thank you again for giving me some hope!!!
8th day post op here! Thanks for this blog and encouragement. Knowing is half the battle. Warm water bath sooths swollen tissue and helps with urination. I would have managed better with more frequent soaks. Cleanliness is next to Godliness....tucks are on my list now.
how many days until it didn't hurt.? I am finishing day 7. I had 4 bm today and they were all brutal. there is something still in there that is causing me massive grief
To all I feel your post hemorriodectomy. Dave from the UK. I'm post op 12 weeks. This operation takes up-to 6 months to fully heal. There are some rules I would love share with all who experience this operation. Tips I guess to help. That really has worked.
1/ Ask the hospital for instillagel. Local anesthetic in a syringe. Prior bowel movement. Post movement for two weeks post op.
2/ Have a shallow bath. Add a little salt to the bat water, bathe Straight after BM. As your muscles down there are relaxed. Soak 20 minutes.
3/Use Fibrogel, sachets 2-3 a day. These are a god send. Bran sachet . They help to keep your BM formed but soft. Not runny. Which will cause more prone to infection if your BM are liquid. After week 6-8. Drop down to 1 sachet per day. Drink at least 3 pints of water through the day.
4/ You will experience a yellow discharge. Some poop leakage too. Don't be alarmed. Your muscles have been opened to extreme. Lol. Anyway. When you feel this leakage. You must try to clean up straight away. Little water, soap etc..
5/ So take a dip in a warm/hot bath for 20 mins after BM. Plus have another bath at night before bed. All this helps with healing the area.
6/ I get all the degrading leakage, one thing I forgot to mention. If your a man. Be glad of lady monthly pads. There another god send. Helps to suppress the leakage. Change 2-4 tines a day. Happy days. the pain is hard mentally, physically drains you in and out the tub. But there is light at the end of the tunnel. Use the items, make a list. You won't go far wrong.
7/ Don't sit on your butt for any long periods for the first 8 weeks. Try an walk when you can, not to much. Little by little. This operation will take up-to 6 months. Due too the area. It's a roller coaster of 1 step forward. Two steps back. Blood, tears, anxiety, frustration. But listen. Use the things above with a good diet. Bingo you will come through this. It's a long one. Good luck to all. Feeling your pain and discomfort. Dave. England. UK./
Not sure if anyone's still on this blog?
I'm 5 days post hemorrhoidectomy. I had 2 internals cut out and 1 internal banded and a mass of external hemorrhoids cut out.
One word....OUCH!
I'm in such pain. Wow!
Thank goodness for all the blog posts as my surgeon said this wouldn't be "too bad" after 1-3 days.
I only sleep 2 hours at a time. I'm taking 6-8 baths a day. All I seem to do it go potty, soak in bath, try to get comfy in bed then start all over.
Wow! And my pain tolerance is HIGH!
I gave birth naturally twice, no meds and have suffered migraines for 35 years.
BUT, This is the worse thing I've ever had.
Trying to keep my bottom medicated (Dr said don't even worry about using creams.....what!?!? Ugh).
Been sitting in a heating pad for short times. Walking a bit.
Geez, this is brutal!
Still taking laxatives as I'm taking 3-4 pain pills a day still.
I feel like there's already another external hemorrhoid and I'm terrified! Could it just be swelled skin? It really hurts and I've put oil on it, PrepH and lidocaine and it won't go down.
This surgery is no joke.
So thankful I waited to do it when I was off work several months. No way I could go to work!!
It is important to have a healthy diet during your healing process. Fruit, yogurt, veggies, toast, cottage cheese. Ease into starches and meats. They will make your stool hard and not fun to pass.
Two weeks after I'm still was dealing with major pains. My dr perscribed me more hydrocodone. 5mg. Still taking meds every 5 hrs 6 if possible. I made the mistake to get up and do a bit. I walked with my family to the mailbox. You would think nothing of a brief jaunt to get the majl wouldn't be a big deal. I had a major major set back. This made my rectum so swollen and very painful. I saw my dr the next day. She told me to continue to stay low key in bad and if I wanted to get up that was ok but nothing strenuous.
Week 4 follow up. I still am not able to sit up direct. My energy levels are not back to normal , unable to drive, and will be out of work another 2 weeks! My frustration levels are a bit high needless to say. I was told you will be out for 2 weeks then you will be able to resume with restrictions with lifting. Everyone heals differently. Just be prepared.
I just want to share regarding hydrocodone. I have never had surgery before. I have never taken a narcotic before. Make sure you have a very clear conversation with your doctor about regulating your dose and how much you will be prescribed. No one told me that there was a limit of scripts allowed. Then I ran out of meds. Holly molly. Not only was I dealing with the reminicing pain after a BM. Now I had 3 horrific days of detox. You need to be informed on how to wean off this medication. I was blind sides of the effects and it was scary. Sweats, migraines, extreme flu symptoms. I don't want anyone to have to bear that nightmare. I was never taking a high dose ( 5mg 4x a day) that's all for 3 weeks. I want to share so this can inform others.
To continued healing and to a healthy bum.
