Hi, I just found out that I am two months pregnant. I missed my period and took the home pregnancy test. It was negative. Because I was not sure of the result I went to see a gynecologist. He ordered blood tests that came back positive. The doctor said that he is concerned because my HCG levels are lower than expected. What does low HCG mean?
Hello, and first of all let me congratulate you. HCG is a hormone produced by placental cells and is an indicator of pregnancy. The level should rise drastically within the first trimester of pregnancy. The low levels of HCG may not be a reason for concern and you can deliver a healthy baby. It would be best to have an ultrasound that will determine precisely how long you are pregnant. Sometimes the date of conception is not properly calculated. The ultrasound will also eliminate miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy as the reasons for low HCG levels.
