Hi! I’m diabetic and I would like to ask something people with same disease. I heard that diabetes can cause many other disorders in the body. I’m afraid that I can get diabetic nephropathy or microalbuminuria. What is exactly microalbuminuria and should I do a test for the presence of microalbumin and when?
When your kidney starts to spill some albumin (a kind of protein) in the urine, that’s mean that your kidney has some damage and it calls microalbuminuria. You didn’t say what type of diabetes you have. That’s important because microalbuminuria rarely occurs with short duration of type 1 diabetes. If you have type 2 diabetes, you should do a test for the presence of microalbumin as soon as you can.
