Glad to find this. I had shoulder surgery 6 weeks ago and now going through physical therapy. Having some pain in the shoulder but also having stinging pain in the top of the arm and hand. From what I am seeing here its common with this surgery. My surgeon is very good and have confidence in him totally. I have another appointment next Friday and plan on asking him about the stinging pain. At my age 66, I guess the healing process is going to take longer. I just hope I can get back to swinging a golf club again.

Heres a follow up on my condition after 5 months since surgery physical therapy twice a week. After complaining of constant  pain in shoulder and scapula and not gaining strength in my Deltoid . I had a  MRI Arthrogram done two weeks ago. It showed a large partial-thickness articular-surface tear of my supraspinatus tendon that measured 4 cm and osteoarticular structures SLAP tear.

Surgeon wants a EMG to see if there is any nerve damage (Nerve Impingement) will do that on Monday. Then back to Surgeon looks like a second surgery to repair the repair and possibly remove any scar tissue that might be causing the nerve impingement.

Surgeon was happy that some of the tendon is healing in some cases they do not . I understand they don't want to rush in for a second surgery but they could of have at least did the MRI months ago when I was telling them of all the problems I was having. When I find out more information of his plan I'll let you know.  Good luck to all of you who are dealing with this or are about to may your healing be fast and painless as possible. Skipper

I had surgery when I was about 19 for a torn rotator cuff that I got from falling and landing on it streatched up and out. I stood up and it seemed to be poped out of the socket and I couldn't move it. I had to use my other hand to pull it down. It wasn't easy but I pulled very hard and it seemed to pop back into place. It hurt like crazy and only got worse by the second. Eventualy a year later I convinced my mother I'm not just being a baby about the continuse pain. I had surgery did all pt 4 days a week for 6months and everything seemed to be ok. Now everything has changed. I have to be carefull of every movement I make extending my shoulder outwards. Even the slightest suden movement can cause my arm to lockup or pop out and I have to use my other arm to break it free of its lock. Its amazingly painfull and kinda scary. Anyone else have the problem with it locking up as if its out of the socket?

it sounds like you have alot of damage in there. It sounds like it is slipping in and out of the socket. I had mine come out years ago and i couldn't ride down the road without feeling every bump in the road. VERY PAINFUL. definitely should get an MRI before it causes even more damage.

I had rotator cuff surgery a year ago after tearing my rotator cuff in a fall on the ice.  I had a full thickness tear of the supraspinatus tendon  and a low grade intrasubstnce partial tearing of the subscapularis tendon, in other words my rotator cuff was torn in two places.  I had 7 portal holes from my arthoscopy.  My shoulder still bothers me but the muscles in my arm hurt worse, except when the weather changes then everything hurts.    I still do not have full movement of my shoulder and arm, and things that I used to do easily, now hurt when I try to do them.  For example:  vacuming, washing windows, drying my hair, putting dishes away, etc.  I will wake up and can barely move my arm some days.  Still not sleeping good either.  I think I have sleep depravation.

I also had surgery on both my shoulders back in 2003 and 2004. They continued to hurt afterwards and have gotten worse. I finally had an mri done three weeks ago. I have a ton of things worng in the left shoulder all post op changes wich being post op can't be repaired. My right shoulder ac joint has a seperation but can not be repaired due to the fact they took part of my collar bone out. I went in for a simple rct and i feel worse now than i did back then. So i know how you feel. :(

Hi
I had RC repair - Joint debridement first time round in Oct 2010 then second op in Jan 2011 where bicep tendon was found to be internally torn and was released and repaired and reatached to the bone also removed some more bone, then third op in Dec 2011 bicep tendon had to be severed due to deteriation.
Now have single tendon attached at rear with no loss of bicep strength.
Virtually no pain now from tendon but shoulder joint simply feels worn out, work in building trade have done all physio and still attending plus doing the range of movement sesions lotsof muscle building work but my god the shoulder is so pain full. Cant sleep on side any more and even at rest initial movements can be so painful. Drive a car and even a sudden movement no matter how pathetically simple means pain.
Have final visit with surgeon this weekend.... extremely worried other shoulder now gone down the same route.

From what I am being told shoulders for Joe Average take a long time to heal and not talking a few months, shoulder region is hugely complex with tendon and nerves. Now if an athlete with full resources and physio rehab sessions then it all sounds great.

Third op say more bone spur regrowth... so please do ask as many questions as possible at time of opting for surgery and realistic expected recovery times. To all who have under gone shoulder surgery and full recovery I am pleased for you all who are still suffering long term and like ,me working on through it be sure to look for answers via your doctor even if just for pain management, we all need to earn a living when the problem starts to affect your means of earning a income that is when the stress really kicks in.

I had my surgery on Feb 20th. I have two more rehabs left and seem to be getting better. The stinging pain has gone in my forearm and hand FINALLY. I still have pain but Aleve seems to be helping. Hopefully I am on the road to a full recovery but will just have to wait and see. I am a avid golfer and have not played since my surgery. I probably will not be able to play again until the end of June if then. Hope all of you will get better with time.

I have just had my dominant shoulder surgery done under two weeks ago and after reading the problems people are having on here I would like to just come on and tell my story.I don't know much about it so please excuse my ignorance as I will just copy from my reports.

Around 12 months ago I fell at work and injured my shoulder, the doctor I saw sent me for an ultrasound and as I am self employed I was given physio and steroid injection. My report was a full thickness tear of the anterior subscapularis tendon. Final comment was Almost completely ruptured subscapularis tendon with burstitis and impingement

I didn't have much movement but continued to work for a further few months (I am a painter)and finally got full movement again.

I was working normally except for the constant pain,I could have put up with it,so I went to a different doctor and she referred me to a surgeon who didn't believe the first ultrasound result because I had complete full movement and was still at work.

He gave me another ultrasound and steroid injection in the joint and the next results were a full thickness tearing of subscapularis along the margin interval.Small ganglion overlying the insertion of the subscapularis, Size of tear is 21mm length x 26mm width

I was given mini-open surgery within a week, stayed the night in hospital, I was off meds after 4 days and have not needed them since,I still have pain but every day it gets better.
I started doing the gentle exercises within a few days of being home and I am to start physio tomorrow.

I believe this is a good outcome so far however I feel sorry for the others who aren't coping as well.
