You definitely need to have an MRI. Only way they can tell if rotator is torn. If you don't have surgery...most likely...you will favor your shoulder...arm...and eventrually you will get a frozen shoulder. Which needs more surgery. 9 times out of 10 it won't heal itself. Surgery IS required. It sucks...but ...after two surgeries...I know. Fearing a second one...I waited 2 1/2 months before I finally had the second shoulder mri. It was torn again. And it would not heal without the second surgery.
Go...get it over with. Won't heal without help. Sorry. Good luck!

Okay so I have been playing baseball for about 15 years now being 18 years young.. Am at college currently playing somewhere in Michigan don't feel the need to say witch one. I recently three weeks ago underwent rotator cuff and labrium surgery, after the surgery to be honest I felt pretty good, yeah it ached more then hurt but it was very manageable with the hydrodone (sp). Today I feel pretty good being the 3rd week, never really hurts at all almost have full range of motion and am really looking forward to each and every physical therapy visit. All I'm saying is that if you listen to what your suppose to do from your doc you honestly should have a yes long, but manageable recovery. I have been told that I may never play the game I have a passion for ever again and i haven been told a plethora of times I WILL never have the same velocity in the arm ever again, for some reason I have other beliefs to my recovery. I feel great and am ready to prove people wrong and work hard. Another big thing is to your recovery is to honestly it sucks but you need to quit the nicotine, cigs and chewing tobacco and you need to eat healthy.. The nicotine for some reason doesn't allow it to heal properly.

I had rotator cuff surgery two months ago. Wore the sling for six weeks and am now in therapy. I had very little pain while I wore the sling. Now that I am in therapy it hurts all the time. I take perscription drugs as well as over the counter just to be pain free for awhile. After reading these posts I guess it will be awhile until I am really pain free. Thanks for posting it sure helped me understand that I am not the only one with this pain.

Going to PT 5 times a week is way too much. I had a total tear in my Rotary cuff and it's been 6 month since my surgery. I still take Percocet 4 times a day( because I was already taking them 3 times a day for my back so my body was used to them) and it helps as well as the stretching two times a day. I hate taking the meds but it's better then being in pain all the time. Got the ice on my shoulder right now and hope that in another 5-6 month I will be strong again. Good luck to you all.

Hi, I am nearing week 6 for a full thickness rotator in my supraspenatis and am in pt 2x week. I can get my arm up over my head in front of my body but coming down I lock up at my waist level. Has anyone had this experience? I see the OS 4-22. Surgery notes state I have a frayed bicep too, will this heal on it's own? My nights are miserable too!

Well I had my surgery on 12-21-2012 and am still off of work. I had a nerve block in the neck before surgery and since then have had swelling in the lymph node, so I am unable to have full range of motion. Have about 50% right now, had second MRI last week to see if I had a re tear, but shows no.
Very frustrated right now as I am still in alot of pain and alot of debt. See the Dr. tomorrow to see what the next step is, possible 2nd surgery to clean up scar tissue. I will not do injections in the shoulder as these are only temporary pain relief. Have pain all the way down into my fingers.

I had my Rotator Cuff surgery on Jan 22. I had a super massive tear to my right rotator cuff and had a muscle transfer done. I am coming up on 4 months Post surgery, and I am very concerned because I cannot raise my arm more than 10 degrees. Is this normal? I have been doing PT 3 times per week. I cannot do the right arm lifting exercise.

Forgot to mention, my pain at night especially, is severe to the point I cannot sleep much. It seems since I came out of my sling that the pain is worse during the day too. Also, still having a lot of numbness in my hand at night mostly. I hope things get better soon as this is really worrying me. I can't even change a light bulb with my gimp arm.

The problems for me still exist and it has been years since I had the surgery. I started taking tennis lessors a few months back and I have to be very careful with regard to technique. If I serve wrong for example, I get pain that I have to ice down. I tried throwing a football the other day and I still get no power on the throw even though I throw it no differently than I used to before the surgery. Now, the ball floats no matter how hard I throw it. And as I reported in the past, I am still hearing cracking noise when I simply go through the motion of throwing a football, baseball, etc. Then there is the weather...if very humid which tends to be the case in living in South Florida, my shoulder aches. Wish I had better news to report. I have been thinking as of late that maybe I will see a doctor to find out if the shoulder needs to scraped or whatever.

I am also happy for all the posts. How I shouldn't be in pain and don't need medication and feel like I shouldn't bring it up. I had a ripped bicep bone spur and particle torn rotator cuff which had to be screwed back to the bone. A month after operation I heard it rip again. When I told the dr, his stand point was that " you seem ok and have strength and its too early for an MRI so lets go forward like you're ok. Now its two months later and am experiencing more pain, more clicking, when I lift my arm and as I lower it I feel something shifting or snapping in my arm. Now I am waiting for my insurance co. to approve the MRI. Dr didn't seem happy when he checked my shoulder yesterday, seem bothered by it because I believe that he cares about his work, maybe some muscles vitamins can help. We will get better, keep it positive, I certainly couldn't go on the way I was before the operation, truly am tired of this waiting.
