I'm not a doctor, nor a medical person.

But it sounds like there have been complications from the operation.
It's also possible that your friend has not been entirely truthful about the type of surgury that she has had.

You need to be as supportive as possible, but also you need to speak with a doctor or nurse to get a more clear picture of what this could be and why.

Also, remember that your friends' medical history is her own. It is not all public knowledge, so you don't have a right to know it all.
Still, your concern for your friend is admirable. Be there for her and her family. That's the best medicine right now.

Every surgery can be dangerous and your friend probably was less lucky than most people who have gallbladder removal without many problems afterward. But it is a organ removal surgery. How is your friend doing now? Blood clots can form from many different reasons but they basically form when there is some injury. So, surgery could have contributed a great deal to this tough situation. And blood clots travel through the body – that is one of the main reasons they are so dangerous.
