I have been experiencing many of the same symptoms as described in this forum - with the exception that (right now) my legs only turn purple in certain spots while in the shower.. and are freezing cold to touch! I have been recently diagnosed with Raynaud's Phenominon.. which means that the purple legs and feet can be associated with this syndrome... I have also discovered from the doctor today that the Birth Control Pill affects circulation and can bring on Raynaud's attacks and the blue legs %-) I am 24... so if anyone out there is on the pill, it might be worth a try to go off it for a bit! Ive been on it for quite a while so Im going to try going off it at the end of the month, will post the progress!

I went to an accupeturist and she told me that the purple-red legs after standing ect.. is becasue of bad circulation in the legs ..she said it was hereditary since my mom has bad circulation in her feet witch caused varicose vains..Anyways if you go to the accuputurist she could treat...and I also have these patches of red they seem like to be under my skin and sometimes they dissapear and then they come back and I dont know what to do about it I hate i so much ..they make my arms look fatter and i cant wear short sleeves:( HELPP!!

wow! i just came across these post and i too am going through the same things. it started off when i had 2 back surgeries i lost all feeling down the back of both my legs. and feet. and bladder and bowl is gone too. my heel got dry skin on it and i got a crack on the heel. the crack got infected and turned into a 4inch deep 4 inch wide hole in the bottom of heel/foot. thus remember i cant feel anything so i didn't know until i noticed my legs swelling up. i go to pain management doctor now every month and asked him last week to look at my legs. my legs turn red/purple swell up and hurt. then once it swells the skin tightens and starts to itch real bad. he thinks it has to do with the nerve in my back and legs that is dead or pinched causing the no feeling from the waist down. but he said the swelling and purple legs is from no circulation. he said it also can be high or low blood pressure. he gave me a referral to see a cardiologist doctor. so, all you out there with no insurance cut out the middle man and go see a cardiologist doctor. or if you have a county hospital or any hospital go into the ER its the best way to get treatment and then get billed for it later, since all other primary care doctors want money up front. county hospital are the best for no insurance patients because they have a department within the hospital to help you, they pay your hospital bills, or they will write it off. most cities also have a social services office that pays for hospital bills and prescriptions. not social security it called social services. also local senior centers, community centers, and even local churches also help with financial rent, food, and doctor bills. so call around for help you don't want to wait until it gets worse.
if it gets to the point of where you have no pulse in your foot and legs. it can get infected and then they will decide to amputate. not good to wait. anyone need someone to talk to drop me a message i have been dealing with this bolonie since i was 23 years old now im 29

Hi. I am 22 and have had these same symptoms for most of my life. Whether I am sitting or standing my legs turn purple and get very red spotted. I have been to the doctor and he told me the red spots were from a skin disease called psoriasis. But there are many different types of psoriasis so not everyone with red spots has psoriasis. The doctor told me my legs turned purple due to lack of exercise(I am not overweight 110 lbs.) and smoking. However, I do exercise more now, and have cut back on smoking a lot but..... I still have my problems. It is so embrassing, because I am going to be in my friends wedding and the dress hits me at the knee, so I am going to be soooooo uncomfortable the whole time. I only wear shorts around the house, and I feel like the whole world is staring at me if I go out with a skirt or shorts on. I am only 22 and I can't even dress cute..... I honestly have never been about to, because like I said before I have had this since I was very young..... about 6 or7 is when it started.

I have this same problem, hence why I am even on this question.

I'm 16 and have had it for ages, my feet and legs go purple and patchy and it's vile

at the moment I'm just shaving them, moisterising, exfoliate, and generally masaging them regularly

It seems to be taking an effect
But I havent been doing it long

I also try to keep warm as much as possible

If anyone finds anything more successful please tell me

Two years ago (when i was 15) i started getting very sensitive to cold temperatures. Whenever i get cold my hands, feet and legs turn a bluish colour!!!. I also have pumps on my legs that look like pimple (I think they are ingrown hairs). I read somewhere that when your body is having trouble keeping u warm you grow very thin hair all over ur body (this could explain the ingrown hairs). When i was 15 i started a diet and lost about 15lbs within a month. I don't think i was anorexic but close to it. I went back to my normal weight within a year but my problem with being cold and purplish-blue hasn't gone away. I can only wear shorts or skirts when it is a very hot day because the pimples on my legs seem to be less noticeable when i'm warm. Does anyone know what i have? poor circulation?

I also experience the purple bruised looking legs. I have been told in the past by my dr that it is caused from bad circulation because I sit all the time at my job and the fact that I am overweight. Since being told this by my dr, I am now diabetic. I have noticed that if I get up and keep moving it doesn't look as bad on some days compared to days that I don't move around. Now my cousin has told me that is a sign of heart problems, seems like when the dr did an ekg something would have come up abnormal. I do sometimes notice if I am just out taking a walk, that my hip will hurt. I just figure it is me being out of shape.

Hi,
Again similar problems to you all nice purple tinge that goes well with shorts off course and the whole ingrowing hairs thing which is really annoying. But if u exfoliate wherever u hve ingrowing hairs then that takes off dead skin and stops them becoming red and bumpy. As for the circulation it is poor circulation it's called Raynauds I use bioflow magnetic bracelet for mine and has improved my circulation dramatically is now normal colour so google it, they are expensive but as your blood has a charge to it (well the haemoglobin in it) it almost pulls your blood to the places where you have the bracelet (which you can wear on ur ankles) so it is scientifically sound. And if u want to wear shorts then do I do and people just want to wrap u up warm they don't find it gross or disgusting, so go for it. Btw eating problems reduction in weight/overweight/no exercise are main causes although sometimes ur just unlucky, but gd lck.

I have the same problems that you guys seem to have. My legs get purple and splotchy when I'm standing up or cold. It used to only be in my legs but now my arms get a blue tint when I'm cold, and I'm getting white spots all over my arms that aren't noticeable when I'm warm, but when I'm cold and my arms get the blue tint the white spots get so noticeable! It's terrible. I really want to go to the doctor but it seems like there's no cure for this.

I've posted comments to this thread before, and after many nights of research (I might be slow), I would like to tell everyone what I've found. For the discoloration on legs, it's an immune disorder called:

Idiopathic livedo reticularis - the most common form of livedo reticularis and is a completely benign condition of unknown cause affecting mostly young women during the winter.[2] It is a lacy purple appearance of skin in extremities due to sluggish venous blood flow. May be mild, but ulceration may occur later in the summer.[3]

This disorder is a part of APS, I strongly believe this is what's happening to all of us!! And I also believe that the ones who have this disorder have other immune diseases. I just realized that the things that I have are all related to each other, and they are all immune disorders. Finally I've found what's wrong with the discoloration, I wish this could help all of you, now it's time to move on and try to find a cure to this. As same as all other immune disorders, there is no cure. But I believe there's a strong link between our lifestyle and diet with this disorder. We won't be able to find a cure that cures us overnight, it's going to take time. I think if we set our mind to change our lifestyle, it would probably work! I'm curious, does any of you have Lupus? Sjogren's? Grave's? Thyroid problems? Google all these disorders maybe you'll realize you actually share some symptoms from each. Also, do you feel stressed out all the time? I do, I think stress plays a big part in all these immune diseases. And please... have some blood tests drawn, they will help diagnose a lot of problems that we have but don't even kno their existence. I really feel a bit relieved since I finally found out what seems to be the "reason" for the discoloration, and I really wanted to share it with all of you who don't even kno we have this disorder!! Update me!!

I have the same problems with my legs and feet, they change colours from red to purple and sometimes go white and numb....i have to rub the blood back in them. my leg veins have become really bad too...I have always been active, never overweight and I never wear shorts or skirts because I feel way to insecure about it. I am only 34 and shouldn't have these issues. One doctor told me that Raynauds Disease affects alot of women. I have all the symptoms. I am going to see a vasular specialist so hopefully they can help out. :-D

hey, i suffer aswell..check these out
restrictive cardiomyopathy
erythema nodosum
takayasu's arteritis

these conditions were the only ones close that i could find that may be related because i dont think its reynauds and legs dont hurt as they would if you had periphiral vascular disease or whatever it is.

Those of us who had Polio experienced those spots all the time especially if we became cold, or lived in cold climates. Really miserable for kids to go through. But, we don't seem to have vascular problems, other than anyone would get due to life, but not from Polio - we have enough stuff to contend with as it is.
