I have the same symptoms that a lot of you have. I first noticed my legs and feet turn purple in the shower one day and it freaked me out! It's like a blotchy purple with white. I went to my doctor and she said it had to do with bad circulation and something to do with rheumatoid and said i should see a rheumatoid specialist but i don't have health insurance. My legs tend to ache too if i stand to long and almost feel tight and swollen. im only 21 and im not overweight. %-) Sometimes my big toe will get numb and when i walk on it, it feels like pins in needles it's very strange. I guess i'm a little relieved i'm not the only one though.

I just commented about how my doctor said it had to do with my rheumatoid. When i was at my doctor's she even noticed that the color under my finger nails were purple. She also suggested that i wear compression nylons to help for when i am on my feet a lot.

Hi, anyone who has the purple discoloration when your legs are below heart level... Do any of you have a congenital heart defect? Like an ASD - Atrial Septal Defect? I have been trying to find some reason or solution to my problem as well.. my feet turn dark purple when i sit or stand but if i start to move around or raise my legs to heart level, the color turns back to normal. My recent doctor thought this might have something to do with the ASD I have, but no confirmation yet. Just wondering if anyone with the same problem might have one too.

Hello,
I'm 19 years old. I have the same symptom as most of you.
(Purple/blue Feet and Hands. Pain and Numbness.)
I ask my doctor about this but he did don't say much.
He just said "Bad blood circulation are some times hereditary."
Because my mom and my grandmother have Bad blood circulation.
When i go back to the doctor im asking agian, my body is killing me now.
I'm very cold all the time, I have to put on 3 pairs of socks (one thick pair).

Well I dont feel so alone now.... the last 2 weeks my legs have swelled off and on and my feet turn red and purple ...sort of blotchy. Big toes get numb and it looks scary. I went to the Doc today as a matter of fact and he did tell me it was circulation. So far nobody has said they were told they were going to die here that ive seen, so maybe i can stop worrying as much until the blood tests come back.

I have raynauds but for the first time ever I stepped into a hot bath when I had white toes and hands and all of a sudden my hands and feet both turned purple and it lasted for about 20 -30 seconds, has anyone ever heard of this or know what this may be, I have had Raynauds for quite some time but never have experienced this!

I'm fourteen now but I've been like this since I can remember. There's no numbness etc. but, like the rest of you, my legs go red, purple or blue with orange patches (no, I don't use fake tan) - and so I have earnt the name 'Lizard Girl' (partially due to the fact that I have strangely hairless arms, and odd skin - in a goodish way). This name is for use by close friends only. It's really quite depressing, because EVERYBODY notices. It looks awful, and there's nothing I can do but wear flesh coloured tights (I'm a girl, incase you hadn't noticed) and boil half to death.

I have the same problem, I went to my doctor and he said to drink more fluids. what we all have is a mild case of metro val prolapse. it is nothing to worry about, he said that it is just like having blue or brown eyes. what it basically is, is that the flap in your heart that regulates the direction your blood flows in your heart . there isn't anything you can do to make it go away. the only thing that i think might work is when you get pregnant and give birth it will go away. my grandmother had this problem and when she gave birth to my dad the purple went away. but I'm not sure if that will actually happen. so don't go get pregnant lol. but that's all i have to say. i hoped this helped(:

I used to have the same problem and it went completely away after eating according to the guidelines in the World Cancer Research Fund / American Institute for Cancer Research.
Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity, and the Prevention of Cancer: a Global Perspective.
Washington DC: AICR, 2007".
Don't know what component of the diet did it, but, something did. I also started drinking a non sweetened cocoa drink - hershey's natural cccoa, 2tbs, and hot water, daily, no sugar. Over time that will improve circulation a little.
I also get a lot of aerobic exercise. I am quite glad my feet aren't purple anymore - it really is amazing - now oloive tone like the rest of my skin.
I also lost 15 lbs, effect of the diet. Good luck.

I also have bad circulation in my hands and feet. i've talked with a number of people who tell me that ginko biloba, cayenne pepper, ginger, and garlic help. There are also Bl-Circ capsules that contain cayenne pepper and ginger that are supposed to help. Take them with food and start slow, maybe one a day, then take more if you want.

For the past two years I have had the same problem. My toes, ankles, fingers, and even knees turn purple when they get cold...which is always. Especially when I'm sitting still. Sometimes my nails even get blueish because my extremities are so cold. Though I don't feel cold, or like I need to put a coat on, my hands and feet are like ice.
I've found that though this is embarrassing and annoying, it's pretty normal. It's just bad circulation. If your fingers turn white, you should see a doctor. But if they're only purple, just tough it out and maybe take a hot bath, which always solves my problem.
