10 days now into recovery from hemorrhoid surgery. After four days I was constipated went to the doc he removed the blockage at the office and gave me what is used as a colonoscopy prep.  It was horrid diarrhea and abdominal  spasms for five days  My normal constipation was made worse by the narcotics after surgery. So I'm off narcotics but still have awful fear about BM and getting blocked up. still have not had a normal BM.

Any suggestions here? I have been thinking about using a Senna product to stimulate the system

Im on day 3 and im doing very well. After the surgery the doctor prescribed me hydomorphine with I was determined never to take, and I still havent taken them. I have been using tylenol 2x650mg to manage my pain and it seems to be working.

Right after I recovered from the surgery I took 2 colace stool softeners and had a bowl of high figer cereal, 9g of fiber in 3/4 cup. In the evening I have my protein shake that has 5g of fiber, added 1 tsp of medimucil and 2x100mg stool softener.

Ive been passing gas ever since the surgery and thats a very good thing. Its a good indicator that youre not becoming constipated. The next morning I had the same shake with the medimucil and stool softners. for lunch I had a couple slices of left over thanksgiving turkey with a cup of kidney beans and a cup of mixed vegetables. In the evening I repeated the same shake that I had in the morning.

Day 3, with is today for me, I felt a strong urge to have a bm this morning. It came on so strong that it was a struggle to hold it back. I was in the middle of filling up the tub getting it ready for after my bm when the bm just came. I was hunched over the tub on all four when the involuntary bm just came, yep right there on the floor. It was completely pain free! I heard horror stories from other posters of being in horrific pain and I was so scared. I think what really worked for me is that I let my body expel the bm without me straining to get it out. After I was done had a shower and took 2 tylenol. Had my morning shake and ive been good.

I know that it may get worse as the days go by, but im going to continue being optomistic. I reduced to one stool softener with my shake, and im going to add a high fiber dinner instead of the shake. I was to gradually bulk up my bm while still keeping it soft.

Sitz baths are great, and I would even suggest having a bm in them to help relax your sphinter muscles. Light a candle and play some soothing music to help relax your body. When the pain starts to hit, I would suggest belting out your favourite song, thats my plan of and whenever I have a painful bm coming up.

Recovery period takes about 2-3 months. What you're experiencing are quite experienced by hemorrhoid sufferers who undergone hemorrhoidaectomy too. I suggest to ask proper medication from your health care provider.
