Am from WI also, had mine done a week ago at UWH, I believe I had the best Urol there. Mine was a little different at 65 I had some stricture problem in the penile urethra, so he decided to access my prostrate through the perineal area. Just about a 2.5 in. incision between the testicles and the anus. I also had to have a grape sized bladder stone removed. A supra pubic catheter was inserted before surgery and now I have both a SP and a foley. Still on Norvo. Feeling better. Follow up is 8/12. Scheduled to have caths. removed, urethrogram, and a cystoscopy.

Had my TURP on July 17 15 at UW Madison. Mine was a little different because it was done by perineal urethroplasty because of fear of urethral penile strictures (surgeon make s a vertical incision from almost the anus to just into the scrotal sac to access the urethra), also he had to remove, crush an inch in diameter bladder stone. Dr. Bushman said I was his first to have all three done the same time... he also acknowledged that I had the two surgical nurses he would want. Since he is in the top 1% of urologists in the country I know that had something to do with the outcome. Everything went as planned, was discharged less than 24 hrs after operation, with a super pubic and a foley catheter in place for almost a month. Am able to urinate at almost dbl the flow before surgery. No retrograde ejac. Probably the only negative right now is an existing scrotal pain, that I have recently read could last for up to a year. I am almost 67, have COPD (was a former smoker and also Alpha1 deficient), and am on warafin after two bouts with blood clots on the lung. My trip wasn't the smoothest, but I have nothing but praise for all the kind, caring, and professionals at UW Hospital.

I can only say what I felt and went through. I hope this helps. I am 53 years old, I don't know if age has anything to do with a trip but If might be a good thing to remember when talking about a trip and recovering. I will start with waking up after surgery. I had a catheter and I had it for four days. It start bleeding on day four, my wife is an RN so I was in good hands. She took it out after calling doctor and I had some bleeding at the time of my penis for a few days and that part of my recovery was fine. After waking up I found out that I had been trying to pick the stars out of the sky, my wife and the other RN's must have had a good time watching and hearing me. I only wished that they would had recorded it, I might could had won $10,000 dollars. The pain was very bad at first, I could not understand why on earth they were sending me home. By what I have been told the surgery was worse than the doctor was thinking it would be. They also found cancer, they did not know that until after it came back from the lab. The doctor told me about the cancer when I went back to his office 10 days later. By the way I no longer have cancer, for me and my faith God healed me. I know that some will not believe that and that is ok by me, I know what I know. I was on some kind of pain killer for about four weeks. It took me about eight weeks to get over the most part. My doctor told me nothing about what I might go through or what to do and not do, I had to learn the hard way. After about five weeks my wife and I made love that was a very, very bad mistake. The whole inside of the prostate came out when I went to the bathroom. I was standing there and started having very bad pain and I watch's as this big blood thing came out of my penis. What the doctor told me that the blood thing was from where the prostate was healing, after having sex the prostate just broke apart and I had to start the healing all over again so it took me about 3 1/2 mos to recover all the way. There is one more thing I should tell you. Men after having a trip will not have anything to come out when making love. This I found out on my own no one told me about this, I think that my doctor let me down on a lot of things. Men can still make love but when that feeling of coming it is not as strong and after being able to have that strong feelings and not seeing anything any more, it took me some time to come to a point that I can say it was ok. My wife and I do not make love as often as we used to and so I miss that very much. But I do have some others health things that other men might not have. In this area of sex I really do think that each man who has a trup, we as men will heal in their own way, what happens to one man the other man might be completely the other way around. But in a nut shell I think most men having a trup 1. Will have pain for one month and it will be bad the first week or two. 2. Don't try to make love until eight weeks or the doctor tell you it is ok to do so. 3. Things as far as sex go it will not be the same anymore and the sooner you come to terms with it the better off you will be. For me I had a hard time with the new way that my body was working. I did not and I still don't like not being able to ( I don't know of away to say this) not seeing myself come. For some this might not be a big deal. But for me I feel that it is just one more loss. I have been through some very bad health things. I feel that I just keep losing were my health. I don't know if anything that I have said here will help anyone or not, but I pray and hope it will help a little. P.S. A word to the wife's here, make sure that you let your husband's know that you love them no matter what. That even if sex is not the same let him know that this new way of Being is ok as well. I found out just how important this is coming from my wife and how she stand by me all the time and her love is there in the ways that only a husband and wife can know.

Exellent information and I can 100% relate to your experience. I've just had my 3rd Turp at the Royal Surrey and hoping I won't have to again. My pre-assesment op was a disaster
After they found a bladder stone in it, so this is actually my 4th operation. If my condition doesn't improve, I'll be going to mainland Europe to have it sorted and the minister of health will know all about it

I am 78 years old. I had the TURP surgery 4 weeks ago. I opted for the spinal for the operation and know nothing about the surgery. I was told it was done. I had to stay in the hospital overnight because of too much blood in the urine. The next day there was less blood and I was released. Went home without a catheter. For the first three weeks I had small amounts of blood as urine was being passed. (just at the beginning) During those three weeks blood clots were passed at random times. At the very end of passing urine I experienced a stinging or mild burning. I still feel this at 4 weeks. (I forgot to mention the reason I had the surgery-- because I coundn't urinate at all) and went into surgery wearing a catheter. I had no pain at all from the surgery except the continuing stinging at the end of urinating. I was told not to have sex for 6 weeks as the Doc uses 6 weeks for his benchmark of recovery. Also was told not to lift over 10 lbs for the 6 weeks. Am having woodies which feel good after all I went through. My pee stream is vicious and over in 15//20 seconds. It is so strong I'm afraid of cracking the potty. I suffered for 10 years with the prostate problem and struggling to start peeing. I am happy with the surgery.

My 59 year-old husband is 3 weeks post op and is in miserable pain. While he can empty his bladder completely the muscle spasms and burning sensation blind him with pain. His Dr. told him sometimes this happens. He is MISERABLE and I am powerless. Besides the percocet, are there any other pain soothing recommendations? He is desperate for help.

The quick answer is no. His ability to ejaculate normally is gone forever. They have to cut too many of the vessels carrying semen form the testicles to the penus. Most of ejaculate will end up in his bladder.
Ejaculation in small amount can happen but don't count on it.

My wife ands I have resorted to oral sex where I eat her and bring her to mind bending orgasms. I get a great deal; of pleasure watching her cum and tasting her.

I had my turp when I was 65 and am now 69. We have sex at least 7 or 8 times a week. My wife is 76 and lover receiving oral sex.
