Hello all, it's been 10 days since I had surgery. I had a bunion removed as well as the neuroma on my right foot. I have had very little pain. Did not need any more than Tylenol and Aleve for pain for the first week. I was driving after 8 days. I can't walk normal yet, the end of the cut nerve is very tender still. It won't take a lot more healing for the pain to be less than before surgery. I am very glad to have it done. I guess everyone's recovery is different. Good luck.

Was very interested to read your post. I have just been diagnosed with MN and have no intention of having the cortisone injections but was interested in your op. Could you please give me the name of the surgeon that performed your operation. (I live on the mid north coast) not so many surgeons here. I also have bunions but have been very active all my life and HAVE to exercise to keep my spine in good order.
It was a relief to read a positive outcome!

Gabbil, can you tell me who your surgeon was in Charlotte? I have an MN in my right foot, and would like to find an excellent surgeon. Thank you for your positive post!

I had surgery on my Morton's neuroma 8 days ago, and I haven't had to use a single pain killer or even a tylenol.  I am not just sitting in a chair with my leg up, nor have I put an ice bag on the wrapped foot.  Dr. checked it today and rewrapped it.  I'm almost walking normally, but of course the wrappings make a difference too.  The only order I have is to not get it wet for 14 days.  The jury is still out as to whether the surgery succeeded in relieving the shooting "twangs" and discomfort.  Time will tell, but I'm optimistic.  I don't like Cortisone/steroid shots and pills and will never take them again.  Last time I think they caused me to have a female cycle at age 66, which then required a D&C cancer check (negative).  I think they also had some kind of effect on my immune system that caused an accelerated growth of Valley Fever Cocci in my left lung, which had to be removed.  So I'm real wary about that as a solution.  I'm happy with my decision so far.

I had neuroma surgery nearly ten weeks ago. Shortly after I read these posts and despaired!

There was a lot of pain and swelling for the first six weeks, but the good news is that it now almost healed-just some tenderness around the scar.

I think it is wisest not to expect too much too soon, but please be comforted by the knowledge that it can get better in the end!

WOW reading all these makes me nervous. I have two neuromas, one 16mm x 1.6mm in second metatarsals and one 11mm x 1.1mm in third metatarsals , they also found quite a large bursitis! I have been in a lot of pain in the ball of my foot, cannot run, no netball, no karate, can't even walk the dog! I am using crutches already off and on as sometimes the pain is so intense :-( I am 41, female, fit and healthy and never expected this! I have seen doctors, podiatrists, surgeons, X-rays, ultrasounds and MRI and have surgery next week      :-/

I had neuroma surgery 6 days ago. I have read alot of horror stories about the recovery time and the pain afterwards.

I am having a pretty easy time. I had little pain the first few days as my foot stayed numb from the local they gave me. On day three, I woke up with pretty severe pain and paniced thinking "here we go". But I took some medication and then the rest of the day I was pretty much pain free. Day four, I woke up with a little less pain and each day is better and better. It barely hurt at all on day six.

I have been keeping it elevated and iced 90% of the time. I have had very little swelling. I do believe this is the key in a speedy recovery. Elevation and ice! I am able to walk in my surgical shoe pretty good with minimal pain.

I am recovering well and with minimal pain and each day is better and better. I think there are alot of success stories, but people just don't write about them.

All the fear I had about this surgery is gone. I am recoverying well and today I feel good. I will probably need the surgical shoe until my stitches come out in 6 more days and then hope to be in a regular tennis shoe.

I feel like my surgery was a success. It's all about how you treat yourself afterwards. Elevation and ice has been my saving grace I believe. I am only up a little bit at a time to bathe etc. The horror stories have just not been my experience.

I wish you all well. Elevation and ice, I cannot say that enough. And force yourself to stay on the couch even when you think you are better. It is day 6 and I am still forcing myself to stay down. A few more days and I will be up and about pretty good I think.

You don't have to be a horror story. Don't let yourself be. Take charge of your recovery and you will be fine.

I could of wrote this myself, I am 11 weeks past mn surgery on both feet, done by a pod, and feel my life is ruined. I haven't yet advanced to a ortho yet, still on a lot of pain meds, and I couldn't image being without them also getting weekly shots in my feet just as I was before surgery, although I had the surgery on both feet so I could stop getting the shots, I am so worried and don't know what to do. My life has stopped, ive cried many times. I see your post is a yea old and I am hoping you feel better? and if so.....please tell me how you did it. Thanks so much

Just had my follow up on day 10. Stitches were taken out and suture tape placed over incision. Only my toes are swollen. The doc said it looked great. I am having very little discomfort and mostly only in the morning. I have the green light to walk as much as comfortable and can drive once I am done with the "shoe". Doc said on the 14th day, I can remove the new bandages, shower, try regular shoes and go back to work on Tuesday! My experience was a positive one. I followed directions to the letter. I stayed on the couch with my foot elevated 95% of the time the first 7 days. I iced my foot several times a day and I believe the combination of staying down and icing allowed me to have min. swelling and doable pain. My neuroma was 2.2 cm by 1cm or something like that. It was big and definitely the culprit. I am glad my experience was not like many stories I read on here. I suggest to anyone to say off your foot for an entire week and ice, ice, ice! I am up and about and feeling pretty good. I only have to elevate when it gets sore now. Happy I had the surgery and I say take control of your recovery. Don't mess with your bandages until you see your doc and follow instructions. I did and I am happy I did. I know I still have a month or two until I am completely walking normal and without issue, but I am well on my way and happy to have some freedom. The couch gets old quick! Good luck to everyone and I am proof this surgery can go well. Most people who had an easy time don't bother to post. I chose to, because there were so many horror stories. I wanted a successful story to be out there as well. Cheers!

I had surgery on my left foot give weeks for two morton's nueroma five weeks ago.  I am doing very well and am walking normally in a sandal.  For the first three days I stayed off my foot except for the bathroom.  I kept my foot elevated all the time and iced about twenty minutes out of every hour.  Walked a little more each day and returned to my desk job after a week.  I feel that the surgery was sucessful, although I a still dealing with a small amount of swelling.  My foot has some numbness and is very stiff in the morning.  My doctor said you can't expect it to be normal until three months post surgery.  I am happy I did this and will have the same surgery on the other foot later this year.

Hi Joan what kind of pain do you experience and have you seen the doctor. I have a similar situation in that I had my surgery 7 months ago. Does your foot change temperature or colour?
